3/5 - Leicester Square

Various members of the school trip are on a pub crawl... or rather, a hunt for the Watcher's Council, 14 Leicester Square.

They've gotten a tip from a crystal ball, and are looking for a sign.

And possibly? Tweed.

"Well, I'm one-quarter Canadian on my mother's side," Andrew added.

"That's... nice for you?" Xander looked a little lost. And possibly like a flat fish of some sort whose name begins with an F. "And... your mother, I guess?"

"She was born in the U.S.," Andrew clarified. "But I'm occasionally mistaken for Canadian. Though a couple of times in Italy people thought I was Irish. One time in China, a guy thought I was Armenian. But, uh, one of us may have been confused. My Mandarin isn't very good yet."

"..."

"...Armenian?"

"Well, we were discussing the Grit'glak demons who are native to Armenia and I was trying to tell him that I'd visited there, but I may have actually said I lived there." Andrew frowned, remembering. "Ooh, I may have mixed up my pronouns when talking about the mating rituals. That'd explain why he -" He looked at Xander and coughed. "It would explain a misunderstanding. So. First time in England, eh?"

Xander just... kind of stared. And considered paying someone to summon flying monkeys to CARRY THIS PERSON AWAY.

Walter was not peeking around one of the library shelves and trying not to snicker. Certainly not.

She hadn't thought Xander leaned that way, though. Very amusing.

Pippi peeked out at Xander and Andrew over the huge blue book she and Victor were consulting.

They're so cute when they're flustered.

*giggle*

Parker clutched Xander's arm, fascinated with Andrew's ability to talk and talk and manage to seem geekier than the Sir Elton impersonator from the night before. When Andrew asked if it was Xander's first time in England, swallowed a giggle in favor of deadpan. If she didn't do something, Xander was going to be having drinks with this guy out of complete neural shock.

"Xander, sweetie, I know it's impressive, but you shouldn't gape like that," she chided him, giving his arm as squeeze to warn him. Then she grinned wickedly. "Wait. I'll take care of it."

Then she leaned in and laid a Parker special on him, buried both hands in his hair, and did the tigress-claiming-territory maneuver that would be really, really difficult to misinterpret.

Plus, it was fun.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Andrew wilted. "Ah," he said weakly. "I suppose you've already got a tour arranged."

Xander blinked at Parker. "Huh. I think I remember how to play the flugelhorn now." Then he blinked over at Andrew. "Also, was that Romeo and Juliet? With the flying monkeys?"

Andrew's face lit up. "Yes! That was me!" and added, "Before I turned away from the dark side forever and ever."

Rory peered at Andrew as she wandered over with a rather heavy tome. "Dark side? You don't look like a Jedi," she remarked curiously.

Andrew blinked. "No, I floss daily."

Rory sighed. "Never mind, I wouldn't understand what I just said, either, if I didn't know better. Anyway, I wanted to ask you - is there somewhere where I can get my hands on some of these books? Because I don't think our library has some of the same editions, if we have them at all. And I'd love to peruse them further when I'm not, you know, trying to save a friend's life. Or, um, unlife. Whatever."

"Most of these are pretty rare," Andrew said apologetically. "But there's a couple Internet sites that are good for rare books. You have to poke around, though. It's mostly like first editions of Dickens or whatever, but sometimes you find the good stuff."

Rory nodded. "Yeah, I'm used to looking up rare books and first editions, and what have you. But I'm not that used to working with - " she consulted the spine of the book she was holding, "- Asiatic Anti-Venoms, unless I'm poking around in Special Collections."

She looked around the library admiringly. "And God knows what fascinating material you've all got around here that has nothing to do with what we're looking for."

"Oh, yeah, there's some great stuff here. We lost a bunch a few years back, but we're rebuilding the collection bit by bit. Maybe you could come back and visit sometime. How are you with languages?" he asked.

"Fluent in Spanish, good with French, Italian and German, and I've got some Greek and Latin under my belt," Rory answered thoughtfully. "Both modern and archaic."

Andrew raised his eyebrows. "Nice," he said admiringly, then added quickly, "That's an excellent start. Have you studied any non-human languages?"

"Not yet," she said sadly. "I have a friend who showed me a little writing in Basic - which, again, is going to be meaningless if you didn't get the Jedi thing. But I could certainly look into non-human languages."

"We have a few books in demonic languages," Andrew said. "And we run across various artifacts, weapons, talismans and all that stuff and everyone likes to carve something on them. Oh, we've got a pamphlet on Grq'lt here," he said, pulling a thin packet of photocopied pages. "It's mostly useless for itself, but the structure is similar to a lot of more complicated languages, so it's an excellent starting point." He handed her the packet. "Here, you can have this. How long are you here for?"

"Until Wednesday," she answered absently, looking over the pamphlet.

"Hm." Andrew tapped his chin with his finger. "You should speak to Giles. I suspect you could be quite an asset to our organization."

"Your organization?" Rory asked, raising an eyebrow skeptically. "The Watchers' Council, you mean? How so?"
