The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

"She mentioned needing to put more on later..." Which he, of course, didn't do.

Francine nodded, and also winced a little. "How long ago was that?" she asked, dropping her towel down on the sand, then her beach back on top of it.

"Not too long ago," Merlin said, looking at his shoulder to try and see just what was wron--oh. Yes, that was rather red.

"That's gonna hurt later," Francine said sympathetically, foraging in her bag for her SPF Five Billion.

The curse of pale skin!

"Dinah mentioned something called calamine to help with it later..."

Francine nodded. "It helps, but still, ow."

"I think I'm beginning to understand just why my mum always got on my about going out in the sun," Merlin admitted sheepishly.

"You are kind of--" Really really. "--white. Well, you were." Francine held up her bottle. "I've got more?"

"Will it help now?" He asked, touching his shoulder hesitantly.

"It won't fix that." Francine pointed. "But you could avoid making it worse."

Holding his hand out for the lotion, Merlin gave her a slightly embarrassed smile. "Did you need help with it? Dinah helped me with my back."

Francine twitched a shoulder strap with her free hand while handing the bottle over. "I did my own, but I'm sure I looked pretty weird at the time."

"Weird? Why would you look weird?" Merlin asked, twisting to try and get his own back and looking... weird.

"Because humans aren't made to turn that way," Francine said with a giggle and a headshake, holding out her hand for the lotion. "Unless there's a Twister board involved."

She's young. She'll learn.

Merlin handed it over with a good humored smile. "And that would be...?"

"A game where a bunch of people end up in a big pile on top of a sheet," Francine explained. Possibly with ironic quotes around the verb in that sentence. "You have to spin a spinner and then put your hand or your foot where it tells you to, and eventually people fall over. You want me to, um. Do you?"

Blinking at her for a moment before the question registered, Merlin quickly turned. "Thank you! That sounds like a fun game." Fun in the same way that helping Arthur spar was.

"It depends where people's hands end up," Francine said dryly, filling her own with sunblock.

Merlin frowned for a moment and then it dawned on him. "Maybe we could try a different game?"

"One you don't need to be drunk or stuck in a pile of family members to survive? I'm all for that." She cautiously touched lotion-covered fingers to one of the more sunstruck areas on his back. "Whoa, that's hot."

"Exactly," Merlin replied, inhaling sharply at the coolness of the lotion. "You're just lucky my normal past time isn't about here."sh

"What's that? Getting fried over an open pit?" As someone had pointed out yesterday, she could occasionally be twisted.

That got a short bark of laughter from Merlin before he managed to get it under control. "The stocks, actually."

Francine's natural blinkiness at that was exacerbated by the bright sunlight. "Stocks?"

"The normal punishment for small things," Merlin replied cheerfully. "You know, with rotten food being thrown at you."
