The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

[OOC: The Princess Bridge Cam is fantastic. Cabins Post | Star Deck | Sun Deck | Promenade Deck | Cays Cruise | Snorkeling | Beach]

"Much better here," Dinah said cheerfully, dumping more sand on his feet. "I never saw the ocean before last year, when I moved to New Gotham. And that's all docks and aqueducts and sea wall, mostly. Plus some little islands like Arkham and Blackwell. Not that anyone goes there for fun."

Dinah blinked, reminded again that it wasn't just Merlin, but everyone who hadn't heard of those places. Weiiird. "One's got an insane asylum on it, and the other one is a maximum-security prison."

"Oh." Well, that was... "A very good reason to avoid it, I'd say."

"Yup." Dinah gave him a rueful look. "They're more like your rocky shores, anyway. No one escapes from Blackgate very often. Arkham's.... different. Crazy, crazy." She paused. "I shouldn't say insane asylum, maybe. But mental hospitals are where people go to get better. No one in Arkham is ever getting better."

Wow. Depressing thoughts on a gorgeous day. "So where do you go for holidays and vacation in Albion?"

"To the larger villages. Or the capitol for festivals and feasts," Merlin replied, offering the lotion back. "Beltane was always fun in Ealdor."

"Beltane? And I thought Camelot was the capitol?" Dinah asked, taking back the lotion and putting it in her bag. She held out her arms to the sun, soaking up the warmth. "Festivals, yay. With music?"

"Not for Ealdor, but it's close enough. Music and dancing and huge bonfire to celebrate the coming summer," Merlin confirmed.

"Cooooool." Dinah grinned mischeviously. "We have Renaissance festivals in summer, sometimes. People dressed up in old-fashioned clothes, playing music from hundreds of years ago. They might be kind of like that. A little."

Well, except for public restrooms.

And the turkey legs.

"Renaissance festivals? You have them on the island?" Oh, Merlin should fear if that was the case.

"I don't know about the Island, but I saw online that there's some nearby, in Virginia and Maryland," Dinah said. "Probably not very realistic. But still, you'd get to hear your kind of music. Unless you liked what they played at the Valentine's Day Dance?"

"...that was music?"

Dinah snorted, then pushed more sand on his feet, patting it down with her own. "It was! It had rhythm and melody! Therefore it was music!" She relented a little to say, "People still play old-fashioned music. Triela only likes classical. You could go looking for that at the music store, I guess."

"And odd noises," Merlin added with a laugh.

Dinah snickered, and reached out to poke at him. "Do you play anything? Ha. It is music, I swear!"

"Me? Of course not! I hum, but that's about it," Merlin replied. "We have minstrels for a reason, after all."

Re: Beach Clamshell [2/23]

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah grinned. "'Minstrels.' Wow." She shook her head. "Does anyone make up songs about people you've met? Like Lancelot?"

Okay, still a little stuck on the idea of him, yup.

Re: Beach Clamshell [2/23]

[identity profile] bigdamndestiny.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Lancelot?" Merlin asked slowly. "Why would they make a song about him?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"He hasn't done anything worth writing songs about yet? Awww." Dinah frowned, pulling her toes out of the sand. "He rescued people in the stories, I remembered that much. Some Lady of... shallots?" She shook her head. "So what are the songs from Camelot about? Ours are a million things. Love and fighting and sometimes stuff about food."

"Old stories, legends... nothing terribly new. Most stories are told many times."

Dinah grinned teasingly. "No wonder you watch Darkest Night, even if it is a terribly cheesy show. Even Tony admits that."

"It's like watching a new play every week," Merlin said with a grin.

"It is, kinda," Dinah reflected, reaching for her water bottle again. "I hope you like the one I'm going to be in as well. I brought my script along, but I've been avoiding it in favor of silly romance novels."

Re: Beach Clamshell [2/23]

[identity profile] bigdamndestiny.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're reading romance novels?" He hadn't even known people wrote those. The ladies at court would be so thrilled to know that.

"I wanted something to turn off my brain!" Dinah defended herself, laughing. "It's at least got a mystery in it. Two dashing heroes in love with the beleaguered heroine. A murder. Lots of silly rich people." She grinned. "My life will never be that kind of exciting. Thank god."
