"And probably not a salad this nice either," Steven said, gesturing to the quinoa salad in front of them.

"I don't know that I've had a salad quite this- fancy- before," Watts mused. Quinoa, yes, but elderflower syrup?

"Me neither," Steven said. "Suppose that's the fun of letting them pick. Try things you might not otherwise."

"Agreed," Watts said. "I do enjoy trying new things. Particularly food." Contain your shock, Steven.

"And wine?" Steven guessed, gesturing to the bottle they were sharing.

"And wine," Watts conceded.

The number of bottles of both regular and ice wine back in their hotel room backed that statement up.

"I think it tastes good?" Steven offered, checking to see if Llewellyn approved as well. It had come with the meal, so they were relying on the expertise of the people who put the dinner together.

Watts sipped from his glass. "It pairs nicely with our first two courses," he agreed. "I can only assume it will complement the remaining dishes as well."

The school may be footing the bill for this excursion, but he'd seen the prices when researching the menu, and price-wise- well, this wasn't expensive wine. But expensive was not actually a synonym for good, as it happens.

"There's been lovely service as well," Steven said as he got another forkful of salad. "Can't think of anywhere we've been where people haven't been nice. Servers and the like. That place with the donuts as well, very friendly."

"So kind," Watts agreed. "And very good with the labels! Simple to tell which options at a glance were vegan." Or had other dietary considerations that didn't apply to them.

Steven thought about it. "I think most of the options offered on this trip had something vegan? Sometimes with asking, but there? I can't remember for certain since we didn't try all of them."

Watts nodded. "And an entire restaurant with just vegan sushi." Yes, it hadn't been the only all-vegan restaurant they'd been to on this trip, but the fact that it was something that was traditionally heavily seafood-based had left an impression on Watts.

Steven had a wistful look on his face now. "That was amazing. Everything was so good!"

Steven had gone home stuffed on as much vegan sushi as he'd been able to eat.

"Do you think the food app would let us order from there for delivery to the island?" Watts asked.

Was it rude to talk about other meals they'd enjoyed while having this (also very enjoyable!) one?

"Hadn't thought of that," Steven admitted. "I'm game to try if you are. One way to find out and all that?"

"But first," Watts said, as their terrine arrived, "Let us get through tonight's dinner."

"Doesn't that look interesting?" Steven said. "I've not had anything like it. Not that I remember."

"I considered attempting to make one," Watts admitted. "For your birthday dinner. Ended up going with the soup instead."

"My birthday dinner was wonderful and I'd change nothing about it," Steven told him. He reached over to give Llewellyn's hand a squeeze. "I promise you that."

"You rose to the occasion," Steven said. "I felt well spoiled."

"As well you ought to be," Watts said, darting in to place a quick kiss to Steven's cheek.

Such gestures got easier every time he made them. Which was why he gave in to the urge as often as possible.

Steven gave Llewellyn an encouraging smile as he did. "Things like that make me feel spoiled as well. You being brave."

"It makes you smile," Watts said. "I like your smile. Even more when I'm the one who put it there."
