It was a perfectly crisp autumn afternoon when Fandom arrived at the literal castle they would be checking into for their stay in Québec. The portal trip had been blessedly without complications and Anakin was holding the buffalo check trapper hat that the Portalocity gnomes insisted came free with every trip to Canada under his arm. He'd be trying to lose it later, but everyone else could do what they liked with their hats.

"Check into your rooms," he said, gesturing to the front desk, "and then you may do some quiet and polite exploring of the city this evening. I expect to see you in the lobby bright and early tomorrow for breakfast and then some educational tours! You too, teachers."

Or just avoid eye contact with the dean and enjoy your trip!

Bistro Le Sam

After getting checked into the suite, Dean came down to get some food and of course ended up on a phone call with a hunter. Honestly the hunter part took only one minute of the conversation the remaining fifteen was Dean eating a burger while listening to the hunter complain about his love life. Finally Dean just got tired of it.

“Look, Tommy, no judgement here but if your man is stepping out with two other guys that’s a sign you need to talk. And really? Probably should just end it. Gotta go, Tommy. Good look with that werewolf.”

It was then Dean realized the other guests were giving him a strange look.

“It’s a LARP thing.”

"Is relationship advice part of the whole package?" Jane asked, going to find him after spending far too long in the fancy, fancy shower in their room.

“Yeah, and I’m hardly one to hand out advice,” Dean said and turned off the ringer on his phone. “It’s lonely out there and some hunters don’t really know when to draw the line between personal and business.”

He held up his hands to show they were phone free. “Sorry. Last call today, I swear.”

"Well, I guess it could be a working vacation, but it's a pretty fancy suite for that," Jane admitted, taking a seat across from him. "Think the school will care if we get room service?"

“Well, all expenses paid means all expenses,” Dean said a little too happy at this prospect.

Look, years of staying in one star hotels just means really taking the time to enjoy this place.

“I already plan on having cheeseburgers delivered to the room for breakfast.”

"Cheeseburgers?" Jane laughed. "Really?"

“It’s a well balanced meal. Burger? Protein. Cheese? Dairy. Bun? Grains. Onion? Vegetable,” Dean said counting it off on his fingers. “All four food groups. I’ll even put on some lettuce and tomato which technically makes it a salad.”

“Oh, so you want a Cobb Salad,” Dean joked. “And if we’re going down that route, French fries are just skinny hash browns.”

Okay. This conversation was taking a turn. Dean leaned forward. “So are you saying that if you’re having a burger you want hash browns over fries?”

“And what, pray tell is done right for you? Shoestring? Patties? Chunks? Deep fried or grilled?” Dean asked, looking somewhat worried now.

"Shoestring. On a blacktop grill. In bacon fat," Jane listed off. "With just the right amount of salt."

Okay now Dean was leaning in because now he was just fascinated. “Do you think they make them like that here, he asked eagerly, like a boy on Christmas morning.

“You truly are… the perfect woman,” Dean said giving her a wide smile and leaning back in his chair. “I was worried for a second there but clearly there was no reason for that.”

Jane rolled her eyes, but smiled at that. "Oh, and poutine! I've always wanted to try that."

“Well, of course, while in Rome you have to try the poutine,” Dean said totally screwing the platitude up. “I’ve had it before but then it came alive and tried to kill me.”

“I have a wide a varied experience of things trying to kill me. This was when all those weird art and creative things came to life on the island?”

Dean then caught again the looks from the people at the other table. “It’s a Larp thing.”

“Or knocking down a building with an elephant,” Dean teased, mostly for Jane’s benefit but also to see the eavesdroppers reaction.

Dean laughed and reached over to take Jane’s hand. “Just kidding you. Hey, how about this week when you’re not chaperoning we go on a pursuit of the perfect poutine?”
