Saturday: Nemesis Island

It's amazing how different the atmosphere changes once you cross over the causeway to Nemesis island. True, it might be the same temperature and all but just setting foot on the island can give you goosebumps.

And if you meet up with of the residents here you might attacked for no good reason.

Which, sadly, is the slogan of the local tourism board.

Oh, so many things. "I really don't want to talk about Myrkr, Jacen," she said, shaking her head. "You know what a nightmare that was and I just want to move on."

"Yes, let's move on," he replied with a smile, reaching out with the Force to spring his trap. With luck, she would be within range of the bomb and he wouldn't have to exert much effort to kill her.

A second before it went off, she had the instinct to move. This meant she was propelled further than she would have been normally, hitting the ground hard but tucking into a roll and covering herself from the debris of blown-up playground equipment.

When she thought things had stopped falling, she looked toward him, not understanding what had just happened.

Annoyed that his plan had failed, Caedus unhooked his lightsaber from his belt. "This would've been easier if you hadn't moved."

Jaina stood, and while realization was dawning, she was still somehow convinced the realization was very wrong. "What are you doing?" she asked, taking a couple steps back, not willing to reach for her own lightsaber just yet.

"I would hope you're smart enough to figure that out," Caedus replied, hearing the familiar snap-hiss as he brought his crimson blade to life.

Usually in her nightmares he was wearing a mask at his part. She shook her head, not moving any farther back. "Jacen, no. I can't fight you." And he shouldn't be able to fight her.

"Then I take it back," he said, slashing his blade high as he advanced. "This will be easy."

Still unable to believe this was happening, she finally pulled her lightsaber free and thumbed it on, even if she had no intention of attacking. She hadn't survived this long to have it end this way.

It would end however he wished it to end as Caedus was ready to force the fight, aiming his first blow to her chest.

Jaina brought her own lightsaber up to block, still not trying to go offensive. She wouldn't, couldn't do it. "You can still stop this," she told him, trying not to sound like she was pleading.

"Why should I?" He grabbed a hunk of debris with the Force and threw it at her back as their blades met.

She didn't even have a chance to avoid that, wincing as the debris connected. That'd bruise later. "Because it's me," she gritted out, rotating her blade to try and knock his away.

His hold was strong, but he used her rotation to propel himself into a spin, bringing his booted foot up to kick at her ribs.

Obviously she should have been spending more time in the salle and less in the flight shed. Grunting as she took the hit and staggered back a couple steps, she held her lightsaber up in a defensive position, still not willing to attack but welcoming any brief chance she had to catch her breath.

Not giving her any time to breathe, he threw all his energy into the fight, following her as she stepped back and trying to slash his blade under her guard.

When it came down to it, Jacen had always been the superior fighter, but Jaina knew how to defend herself. Blocking him again, it really started to sink in that if she didn't fight just as hard, she could really die here, which was why she lifted one leg to try and kick hard at the side of his knee to bring him down.

Jacen fed on the pain her blow brought, ready to channel it back into his side of the fight. He released one hand from its grip on his lightsaber to send a Force push toward her shoulder.

Feeling really out of practice, she managed to only get knocked back a step and a half or so, though it did leave her more open than she'd like. And now she was starting to wonder how exactly she was supposed to get out of this.

Jacen raised his lightsaber in one hand, exerting effort into the Force to wrench a rusted slide away from the playground and send it flying towards Jaina.

There was really no way for her to avoid it, and a moment later she was sprawled under the metal, feeling pain shooting from more than a couple places. She didn't have time to deal with that, though, and with aid from the Force, shoved the slide off of her, suddenly more concerned with where her lightsaber had gone.

It was time to end this, so Jacen advanced once again on his sister to deal a killing blow to her throat while she weaponless and on the ground.

It wasn't the kindest thing in the world, but she was an insect to be tread upon and his boots didn't need to get dirty.

Jaina could see her lightsaber from here, but she knew in that second that there was no way she could get it before it was all over. Even if she could, the simple act of breathing hurt, and she didn't think she could move quickly enough for it to do any good.

So she did the only thing she could think to do, drawing on the Force not out of anger, but out of pure self-defense, hating every second of what she was doing, and reached out her hand, sending blue bolts of lightning into her brother.

His outright surprise was his downfall. Caedus had failed to expect Force lightning from Jaina and so was unprepared when the fire crackled and shot through his body. His own weapon fell from his grasp as he reached a hand to work on redirecting the lightning.

She remembered what Kyp had told her, that if she could create it, she could dispel it, and hoped that she didn't have to. She got to her feet slower than she would have liked, otherwise not concerned with the pain in her chest and how much it hurt to breathe, and drew her lightsaber to her other hand.

And because she wasn't stupid, she didn't even chance a look back at him as she turned to try and run away.
