Saturday: Nemesis Island

It's amazing how different the atmosphere changes once you cross over the causeway to Nemesis island. True, it might be the same temperature and all but just setting foot on the island can give you goosebumps.

And if you meet up with of the residents here you might attacked for no good reason.

Which, sadly, is the slogan of the local tourism board.

"Because you're a criminal," Robin said, as though speaking to a very small child. "If you didn't want to go to jail, maybe you shouldn't break the law. I know, I know, it's a really difficult concept. Should I use smaller words?"

"Aw, someone went to school," Victoria said, smiling. "Thank you for the lesson but it wasn't needed and neither are you."

"More recently than you, what with the whole ancient factor and all," she said, nodding and smiling coldly. "And please, I'm not needed? Yes, I am. You're about as necessary as a tumor, though. It's going to take a little more than that to get me to back of, bitch."

"Someone sounds jealous," Victoria said, rising to her feet smoothly. "And scared. And using overcompensation as a means of hiding several inadequacies. He's mine."

"Yeah, I'm jealous of the sick freak who shot his dog," Robin said, raising a brow. "You're a great judge of character. He doesn't want you. I don't care what you want to say to try and make me think he doesn't want me, either, but the bottom line is that all that Benton Fraser feels for you is pity, contempt, and a strong desire to have you out of his life forever."

"And if you really believed that," Victoria said, smiling, "you wouldn't be here, spouting off at me like you are. You're threatened. Even if it's just a tiny bit. You think it could happen."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Robin smiled widely, shaking her head. "No, I know your type. You're trying to manipulate me, and it's not going to work. I'm not threatened. I'm just doing this newfangled thing called 'taking care of the guy I love,' and ensuring that you do not hurt him again. I'm not sure if they have that chapter in your version of the girlfriend book; it makes sense, since they don't have a whole section on getting him shot in mine."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] mountie-abuser.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't have any intention of hurting him," Victoria said snidely. "Has he ever really told you about that time? When we were together? How intense it was? How he fell in love with me on the day we met? You don't forget that. And it threatens you."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yep, he did," she said easily. "It's okay. We've all had those little flings we regret. Mine have never gotten me shot, though, so he wins."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] mountie-abuser.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't do that," Victoria said. "I wanted him to come with me. And, you know what? He was going to. I think he would still come with me if I asked. You don't know him like I do."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"He wouldn't now," she said, laughing. "No. Bitch, please. 'You don't know him like I do'? You knew him for what, two weeks? We're going on a year. I know him inside and out. I know what scares him, I know what he loves, I know what he hates. I know firsthand that I'm the most important thing in his life. I know his scar hurts sometimes. I know he's sorry you ever came into our lives, and he's sorry you even know about me because you're a sick, manipulative whore who'll use that to whatever advantage she can. I know he wakes up in the middle of the night sometimes, because you had that much of a horrific impact on him. Don't act like he's still in love with you, because he isn't. I'm not threatened, and it's not going to work. I just want you out of our lives, because you're not going to win. Good game, but you're really fucking outmatched."

Robin was happy. She didn't think she'd ever be able to use a 'Bitch please' in real life.

It wasn't often that Victoria was speechless. This was one of those times and she couldn't even cover it that well.

Still.

"Tell me the truth, if you know him so well," Victoria said, stepping closer. "Do you believe completely that he'd never be tempted? That he would never find someone better than you? Do you worry about that at night? You underestimate the impact I had on him and the hold I still have on him. I kissed him the other day. And it still felt the same. You wouldn't be out here if you didn't think there was a chance he could stray. He's honorable and trusting and he can take care of himself and yet, you are still out here."

Re: The Park

Robin crossed her arms, feeling where her gun was holstered under her arm, just in case.

"And you don't know that the first thing he did was come home and tell me you kissed him, but that he felt nothing," Robin said, smirking. "I'm definitely not saying that this is forever-love, or that he would never, ever leave me, or any teenage crap like that. For all I know, he might find someone better than me tomorrow and end things. But I do know that that isn't you, and he won't have the chance to do that or live out the rest of his theoretical life unless you leave him the hell alone. I'm not jealous of you, Victoria. I feel sorry for you. Because you don't seem to understand this kind of relationship, which is why you keep falling back on trying to make me feel threatened. It isn't going to work."

"You never shut up, do you?" Victoria asked. "Are you always picking up his messes? You shouldn't feel sorry for me. You should be afraid of me. You should feel sorry for yourself. You're overcompensating. You're full of crap. You're second place. You're the substitute. He loved me first."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're defensive," Robin observed calmly, and left it there.

Re: The Park

[identity profile] mountie-abuser.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"You can't be around him all the time," Victoria said, smiling pleasantly. "And he lets his guard down around me. I could go find him and give him another scar."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hurt him, and I will fucking kill you," Robin said, and there was the slightest waver to her voice there.

Re: The Park

[identity profile] mountie-abuser.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, that struck a chord. A very nice one.

"Just imagine that scene," Victoria said, taking advantage. "Coming home and finding him gasping for breath on the floor. So sad."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
"And why would you do that?" Robin asked softly. "There goes all your leverage. You'd lose your hold on him. You barely know me, so why bother trying to fuck with my head?"

Re: The Park

[identity profile] mountie-abuser.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Because it's fun," Victoria said. "And he's cost me enough. He owes me some pain."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] canadianpopstar.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"You're sick. But more importantly, you're really, really outmatched," Robin hissed. "Do you really want to test me on this? Because not only am I younger, faster, bigger, likely to be stronger, at least as smart as you with the benefit of being sane, and in possession of better hair -- you haven't met our friends. You mess with Benton, I'm the least of your worries."

Re: The Park

[identity profile] mountie-abuser.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe I'll aim for the front this time," Victoria said and actually mimed shooting a gun. "Does blood stain red?"

And here Robin had foolishly thought she might get by without punching this woman in the face again.

Clearly, she had been wrong, and that was why without even thinking, her right fist was flying straight towards Victoria's eye.

And as soon as it had landed, she was drawing her gun and backing up slowly.

Victoria hit the ground hard, grabbing for her eye and spitting out curse words.

"What if I've already gotten to him?" she shouted, staying still because of the gun. "What if he's already dead? Oh, cry for him. Have fun at the funeral."

Re: The Park

Robin just smiled, backing up and keeping her gun trained on her. "You're so bad at this. He's not dead, or even hurt, or you wouldn't be fucking around with me. Way to show your hand. Stay away from him. Find someone else to play with."
