Nihi Sumba, Thursday evening

It was almost hard to imagine from this tiny little slice of quiet that Sumba is home to almost 800,000 people scattered through thousands of villages. Careful conservation--and Bali as an example of what not to do--has left Sumba feeling like a special, undiscovered piece of heaven.

The sun slowly sinking into the ocean tonight certainly didn't hurt with that impression. The aftenoon rain shower hadn't killed the humidity at all, but it made the various tropical plants extremely happy and the air was heavy with their perfume. Linger over drinks and food, watch the horses as they run through the surf, take a deep breath and relax.

Don't think about this being the second to last night of the trip.

Nihi Sumba has more than 27 uniquely designed villas, and we will be staying in five of them. Each villa offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and Nihiwatu Beach, their own plunge pools, personal staff, living areas and kitchens. You don't have to leave your villas all week! Stark had gone on the chocolate tour and made his own chocolate (dark, with fruit). Afterwards he'd walked the grounds for a bit, not wanting to crowd his roommate.

When he'd finally come back to the room it was empty. He'd thought Summer would be back by now but she clearly wasn't.

So, hoping he wasn't coming across as anything other than mildly concerned for her wellbeing, he sent a very quick text.

The delay in the response was entirely because Summer's phone had been on the other side of the room.

You can have meals served at your villas, too, but if you'd like to mingle with more than just your cohort, Nihi offers three world-class restaurants, a large pool, and some of the most spectacular beach-front property in the world. And they have theme nights! Tonight is a jungle party, complete with dance lessons.

The hub of dining activity is the main, sandy-floored Ombak (which means wave front) restaurant and bar lounge. Ombak, an exquisitely crafted open-air restaurant, serves dinner daily in a relaxed atmosphere (and will have breakfast tomorrow). During the week the resort creates special dining experiences. The large outside deck, cantilevered over the ocean, offers relaxed lounge seating and a spectacular private dining experience, The Nest, perched on the crest of the ocean, is perfect for a romantic dinner or an intimate group meal.

Visit Kaboku for an intimate meal of freshly caught seafood, Omakase style. Watch the sushi chefs prepare an assortment of catch-of-the-day against a backdrop of brilliant sunsets and a roaring beach fire. The chic structure captures a high-end Japanese sushi bar environment, while surrounded by the resort's signature open-air resort ambiance. The restaurant is open from 6 pm until 10 pm. The seven-course menu of local ingredients also includes avocado tofu, shrimp dumplings, Teriyaki dishes, miso soup, desserts, and more. Try the sake and wine pairing with your meal.

Anakin wasn't about to miss out on a seven-course sushi experience, was he? Slightly tanner from the afternoon in the sun (and covering his Jedi knees with pants and boots, as the Force intended), he was going to take his time, not worry what the teenagers were getting up to, and relax for a few hours.

The Beach Club keeps offering drinks and snacks as the sun starts to go down, and you can get them delivered to your chair by the pool. And isn't that what vacation is really all about?

Belle was considering her options for the evening while enjoying a drink and a variety of snacks poolside. Yes, she had a book with her. Of course she did!

Clare still had the sunburn of her life but hiding in the villa all day wouldn't fix it. Snacks would fix it!

"Belle!"

Snacks could cure many ills. It was true.

"Oh Clare," Belle said, wincing. "You've gotten so red! Does it hurt?"

"Oh, aye," Clare said, "but it's so much better than it had been."

"I'm so sorry. Are you enjoying yourself otherwise?"

Could you enjoy yourself when you looked like an oversized yet adorable lobster?

"I am," Clare said. "Are you making chocolate later tonight?"

"I haven't quite made up my mind yet for this evening though chocolate is always appealing. Are you? It might be nice to have company."

"Well, it's chocolate," Clare said. "I can't find a reason not to go."

"Chocolate is a compelling reason to go," Belle mused. "Perhaps we should. It ought to be educational but even if it isn't we still end up with chocolate."

"And we should do something educational in case Dean Skywalker asks us questions when we get back to Maryland," Clare said.

"That's a very good point," Belle said though she was sure the Dean would be doing no such thing. "We should make sure to have some educational experiences."

"And chocolate's very educational."

Well. That was debatable.

"Perhaps they'll tell us about some of its medicinal properties," Belle suggested. "In addition to learning about how it's made."

"It makes crap days less crap," Clare said. "That's practically magic."

"I wonder if there ever is magic involved," Belle mused. "Or if it's all science. Perhaps I'll have to research. After we go on our chocolate tour."

"Mmm, chocolate," Clare said happily.

2.5 kilometers of white sand beach that looks like it's never been stepped on until you came along. Take a swim until it's too dark to be safe for that, watch the horses run in the surf, go for a walk at sunset. It'll be gorgeous.

It had been ages since Irene had ridden a horse, but after nearly four full days of leisure, it actually sounded pretty fun, and the draw of sunset and riding through surf were enough to lure her in.

She was going to be sore in the morning, though. (Which was nothing new, of course.)

After a very slow start to the morning, Goose decided to get in some horseback riding in the evening before the trip was over.

Not up for a horseback ride? The yoga studio is placed entirely so you get a beautiful view of the sun going down over the ocean while you pull your body into all sorts of bendy positions.

Do you want to tour an on-property chocolate factory and then make your own bar of chocolate? Of course you do.

How could Stark pass up a chocolate tour and the opportunity to make his own chocolate? He couldn't. Not even when he was concerned about his roommate but she was occupied for the evening and he would see her later on. Right?

Steve was kind of worried about the people who didn't want to make their own bar of chocolate. Were they allergic? Did they hate joy? Would he have to record a PSA for them?

Well. He probably didn't have to do those any more, being a wanted criminal, etc. A small silver lining.

He was paying rapt attention to the entire process. Maybe Tony could make a chocolate-bar machine back home.

Oh Charlie was all over this! Tour a chocolate factory and then make her own chocolate? She was so there!

Jon had caught fish today! And now he could make chocolate!

Be real, this would probably be the most he'd eaten in ages.

It felt...kind of good.

I spent half the day convinced it was Friday. The disappointment.
