The Fjorgyn, named for the Norse goddess of the Earth, is a 410 foot long ship built in 2020.

Students are in Veranda Staterooms on the Upper Deck, which have queen or twin sized beds ~~depending on which is funnier~~, wifi, televisions, and twice-daily housekeeping. This does NOT mean you can throw ragers. The chaperones are in Veranda Suites, also on the Upper Deck, with queen or twin sized beds ~~depending on which is funnier~~, wifi, televisions, fully stocked minibars and free champagne and fruit platters daily. It is, after all, why they chaperone.

Sakaki did not even have the slightest interest in something like a Ghost Night; in fact, the mere thought of something so spooky and scary put her off wanting to go out at all that evening. Who was to say the ghosts would be contained in just those spots? It was too risk, too frightening, and so she was perfectly content with staying in her room that evening, setting out all the cute little souvenirs and trinkets she'd purchased earlier that day in front of her on the bed and getting to know them and giving them names and just appreciating how cute they all were, and telling them (in Japanese, to make it less embarrassing if anyone overheard her) about all the friends waiting to meet them back in Fandom.

Located on the top of the ship, go on up there to get the best views of the passing scenery and to sunbathe if you really like being cold in October, you weirdo. There's also a walking path if you aren't getting enough exercise on all of the daily excursions.

If you're more interested in eating al fresco and not having a multi-course meal, the Aquavit Terrace is for you. The lounge serves drinks and snacks into the night if you'd like to sit inside and gaze at the shore through glass, or take your chances out on deck.

Located on the Middle Deck, the restaurant will serve as the hub for our meals throughout the cruise, assuming you aren't on shore. Each table seats six, and you've been assigned to one (over here). Make friends with your fellow Fandomites! Tonight, in addition to steak, chicken, salmon and Caesar salad that are always on the menu, the chefs are featuring lamb chops, monkfish saltimbocca, and Belgian endive tarte tatin tonight! All dinners will have appetizers, main courses, desserts, and a cheese plate. Your wine glass, should you choose it, will never be empty. You are traveling in France.

For a town of 100,000 people, you're spoiled for choice if you're looking for great restaurants. There are multiple Michelin starred places, and others that are tasty if not quite as painful on the credit card. There's also a variety of clubs to try out, including this cool virtual reality escape room bar.

It is the spooky season, and this part of France is haunted AF. Mortemer Abbey even has a Ghost Night--in the dark--to capitalize on this. They're probably not real ghosts.

Probably.

"Zoooounds," gushed Graham, to no one in particular, his eyes bright with his barely contained excitement, as the Ghost Night was about to begin. "I sure hope I don't regret this!"

And, really, with this guy? It could easily go either way.

Given the different experiences Goose and his team had had with ghosts over the last couple of years, Goose was rather intrigued to check out the Ghost Night and see what it was like.

Stark didn't expect to see any real ghosts tonight but this sounded interesting. He'd gone on a ghost tour in Boston but this sounded different.

He'd be keeping his eye out for any actual ghosts, just in case.

Travis didn’t believe in ghosts, at least not ghost-tour ghosts.

But like. He didn’t not believe in them.

He was pretty sure stories of haunting snack in his Seattle were just stories but he also didn’t, like, go into haunted houses and tell the ghosts to prove him wrong. That was disrespectful!

Which was all a complicated way of saying he was 100% going to get a bit too into the atmosphere here and give himself the heebie-jeebies.

“This’ll be fun!”

"It should be interesting at least," Stark said. "Maybe we'll see something. Or I'll see something. Or at least learn something?"

And maybe offer comfort to any big strong firefighters who got scared by ghost stories.

Being strong didn't make a difference with ghosts, they were intangible!

"You'll -- right. Because of your -- thing. Tell them I said 'hi'?"

They weren't always intangible to Stark!

"Because of my thing," Stark said with a nod, reaching up to touch the edge of his mask before dropping his hand again. "If I see any of them, I will. It doesn't happen that often but I usually try to speak to ones I see. Ask if they need help.

"Of course you do," Travis said with a small (slightly rueful) smile. ". . . And what do, uh, the living say about seeing you talking to people they can't see?"

"I'm used to people thinking I'm crazy," Stark said. "And staring."

Travis had thought he was crazy when they first met, even.

"But it doesn't happen very often, seeing them."

"You might be used to it, but you don't like it," Travis said. "Oh!" He dropped his voice to a very loud whisper. "If you see one I can cause a distraction!"

That was a terrible plan. He should definitely do that.

"No, I don't like it," Stark agreed. "You could be distracting. Or I could just look like I'm talking to you? If you stay nearby."

So that Stark could protect Travis from the ghosts. Of course.

Well, Stark would warn Travis if the ghosts were mean! Right?

“Oh. Yeah, that’s probably a better plan.”

Of course Stark would!

"You could try your way too. If I see more than one. We can see what works best? Or...I don't have to speak to them."

He'd feel guilty if he ignored any possibly trapped spirits.

“I’m not going to tell you not to do your thing,” Travis said. “That’d be like . . . me trying to not fight a fire.”

Stark reached out a hand towards Travis while offering him a grateful smile.

"There shouldn't be any of those tonight," he said. "I hope. But there may be ghosts."

"I just hope they're nice ghosts."

"I won't let them bother you if they aren't," Stark promised. "Often they're just...lonely."

Which he understood very well.

"That's . . . extremely sad," Travis said, frowning. "Does talking to them help?"

"Sometimes. Not always. But it doesn't hurt." Unless maybe you almost flew a ship into a star because you were talking to a ghost who was trapped and needed to be freed. Not that that had happened or anything.

"But I understand being lonely. Sometimes maybe it helps just for them to know someone knows they're there."

"That isn't just here for a thrill?" Travis said. "What do ghosts think of tourists?"

"If I see one tonight I'll ask," Stark said with a soft smile. "It's good of you to care. And... to try and understand."

He knew it wasn't the easiest thing to accept.

“Of course I do. No one should have to hang around after death being bored.”

And besides, he liked to think about someone like Stark helping Michael, when he died.

"No," Stark agreed. "They shouldn't. They should be able to cross over to where they're meant to be. And they should be able to rest."

He was just going to reach for Travis's hand now. Just because.

Travis was happy to hold his hand. And give it a little bit of a squeeze as they headed in.

Yes, Shunsui thought the dead guy going to the Ghost Night was hilarious. He also felt a genuine sort of interest in the chance to sort of see how other cultures might approach things like that afterlife; he might pick up some interesting little tidbits to share with Nanao-chan or Jūshirō, or something that might make Rangiku-chan laugh.

And, hey, if anything, the last time they'd encountered actual ghosts on one of these trips had ended up pretty well for him, so you never knew...

Oh, Amaya had come for the drinks at first, but was definitely staying for the VR. You'd think so many years working with the danger shop would have taken some of the fascination out of it, but this was a personal one, and she was absolutely fascinated by all of it...and fell far too easily into simulation itself, which could prove potentially dangerous if she started to get frustrated.

Tomorrow we head to the beaches of Normandy!
