Boston, Massachusetts [Friday night]

It's our last night in Boston, everyone! Go out, eat in restaurants, party at clubs, or put on comfortable sweatpants and participate in a reenactment of the Boston Tea Party, where we'll dump fake tea into Boston Harbor!

...um, no one tell Seivarden.

"Erm...yes?" Jon looked at her, confused. "A-as much as I do enjoy tea, I...I really don't think the fish would."

Seivarden looked sincerely confused.

"Who cares about the fish?"

Jon blinked and looked properly horrified. "I- anybody who has to live on the planet? Not that destroying the entire ecosystem hasn't been a...a hobby of some people for centuries, but it's certainly not something we should aim for!"

"They won't die of tea," Seivarden said.

Why did this even have to be discussed?

"This many crates, day after day?" Jon said, still confused. "They absolutely would. Probably not all of them, but it...it certainly wouldn't be healthy for them, or for all of the plants they eat. The acidity and hardness of the water would be affected, along with the ability of sunlight to penetrate to the plant life, and even if the oxygen content was acceptable at first, the mineral balance would be completely thrown off, and gills aren't adapted for breathing in tea..."

He could go on.

"Well," Seivarden said. "There is plenty of seas on this planet, but combining ruining tea and killing fish is quite uncivilised."

She wasn't going to start an argument, after all.

"Are you very interested in fish, then?"

"I...no? Yes?" Jon sighed. "I'm very interested in not killing the planet."

Been there, done that.

"Yes, I understand people on Earth are on their way of doing that," Seivarden said. "Another thing here that makes no sense."

Jon grimaced. "Well, you aren't wrong. Are you...you aren't from Earth, then."

Seivarden actually managed to hold back her first reaction, which was that the suggestion that she even might be was a bit insulting. He probably didn't know better.

"No, I'm from another universe with far more advanced technology where we avoid killing planets and ruining good tea."

Ah, killing planets. As soon as she had said it she realised what it could mean. After a pause, she added:

"Killing planets is... generally frowned upon."

"Generally. That's...that's good, I suppose." Jon sighed. "I should like to say that if we had access to advanced technology, we wouldn't be killing the planet, either, but all it takes is one determined idiot," he added bitterly. "Still, maybe we wouldn't be doing it accidentally, at least."

Garsedd hadn't been accidental.

"I'm not sure that's better," Seivarden said.

Jon laughed bitterly. "Well, no. But it's one fewer thing to worry about. At least it leaves you facing only active malice, instead of active malice and blind stupidity."

He was so optimistic.
