Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Feet Below Fandom, Tuesday

The second Tuesday in the hole saw the campfire big and bright. There were loads of marshmallows to toast, chocolate and graham crackers for those who wanted to full-on make s'mores (despite, you know, the lack of adequate bathing facilities down here), and even some hot dogs for those who wanted to eat something other than massive amounts of sugar after the quest to finish off all the ice cream at Chilly Boulder before it melted.

Now they just needed some crappy beer and an asshole with a guitar playing "Wonderwall" and it'd be a proper high school style rager. Or, you know, they could all just mope and/or brainstorm around the fire for a bit.

"Okay, so," Alexis said, making a big show of settling in for anyone who might be listening.

"Once upon a time, it was a dark and stormy night. And there was this girl. A co-ed, super cute, and she was on a long road trip and out too late. So she stops for gas, and goes in and gets like.... I don't know, whatever people get on road trips. Gross coffee or whatever. So she pays for her stuff and gets in the car and starts driving off.

"And then after a few minutes there's this truck really close behind her. Oh! That's right, she'd stopped for gas at a truck stop. And this truck was following her. And this truck is flashing its headlights and keeps getting really close, and kind of aggressive? So she keeps getting freaked out because obviously this guy is trying to kill her but she's got nowhere to stop, so she has to keep driving like that, and she pulls off at the next exit and she runs out of the car at the first place with people, and she runs out of the car waving her hands-" Yes, there were gestures, sorry to anyone sitting around her. "-yelling 'Help, he's going to kill me!' and the cops come and arrest the trucker, and then they look at her car and see a serial killer definitely had jumped into her backseat and every time the trucker flashed his lights at her it was because the murderer was raising a knife to murder her. The end."

Hannibal was unimpressed with this story's serial killer; he seemed sloppy and uninspired.

Still, the idea was to help morale, not tear it down. He would try to be encouraging.

"An interesting twist. I trust the police let the trucker go?"

"They we're going to, but then it turned out he had a warrant out on him from his college days so it turned into a whole thing," she made up. "The real scary thing is our justice system."

She didn't really think that but she'd skimmed something about it.

Excuse Danny while he just very quietly snorted in amusement at that ending over his very flat, very lukewarm bowling alley soda.

Because c'mon now.

"Too true," Hannibal said, nodding gravely.
