Friday evening into night: Hapag-Lloyd Hanseatic cruise ship

The cruise ship was docked at Paradise Bay, a short walk from the end of Fandom's Causeway.

The Fandomites weren't the only ones being welcomed aboard -- in addition to the pre-existing passengers, members of the various research teams and those who worked in Paradise were joining in the festivities.

Once everyone was on board, the ship headed out to cruise around the various islands, glaciers, and ice formations, to return much later that night.

Board the boat, mingle, explore.

It's a Caribbean feast and a fully stocked bar, with a dance floor thrown in for good measure.

Appropriate outerwear is available at every exit -- thermal jackets, gloves and hats, in all sorts of sizes. Get rugged up and wander the deck and watch the world go by as the ship cruises past glaciers and islands.

As an added bonus, there are orcas playing in the water around the boat, leaping into the air and flipping their tails.

The delicate balance of nature in Antarctica means fireworks aren't at all appropriate.

However, sometimes nature (http://www.antarcticconnection.com/antarctic/weather/aurora.shtml) provides.

I so want to go to Antarctica some day.

Johnny's hand was resting on the small of Savannah's back, and while he wasn't sure about how things were going to go from here on out, he was sure that he wanted her here with him.

He was staring up at the cruise ship, a grin on his face. "I think this is going to be a good night."

Savannah was staying close to him, glad that she was there with him. Her eyes were moving over the ship and the first thing she could think of was "Wow."

"That ship is beautiful."

Well, he was warm, and he kept her close. But not for merely the purpose of keeping her warm; he'd missed her, even if he'd not yet told her in so many words.

"It is incredible, that's for sure." Johnny glanced down at her. "Are you looking forward to tonight?"

Savannah nodded, looking up into his face. "I really am."

He nodded, wanted to ask about what he'd heard on the radio, but he didn't want to darken their evening, per se, with any upsets. Later, when they were alone.

"You're warm?"

If he asked, she'd answer him honestly. After all, she had promised a certain someone she would talk to him.

She smiled. "I'm nicely warm, yes." She tilted her head. "How are you?"

"Me? I'm awesome," he smiled and tapped the tip of her nose. "Especially now."

And wow, did that ever make her smile.

"Good. I think it's going to be a nice night."

Johnny turned into her slightly, cupped her chin in his hand, and stared into her eyes. "I promise I will make it so."

She looked back into his eyes. "Just you being here is already doing that," she said honestly.

Taking her hand, he asked, "Want to tell me about yesterday?"

This felt really nice.

"Yesterday was a bad day," she said softly. "I'm going to assume that the radio said something about me doing stuff at the store or having a breakdown when I got to Sean's?"

"Something like that," he said, keeping his eyes focused on hers.

She nodded, not looking away. "Well, after promising you that I wouldn't do any more of the spell work alone, I turned my energies into other things to do -- like rearranging the store. I thought I was okay until I went back to the hotel and I was playing with the letter I had written you. I don't know. Everything just crashed down around me emotionally."

"The letter you had written me," he said. "Were you planning on giving it to me?"

Amber stood there, grinning, taking lots of pictures of the cruise ship. "A cruise ship, oh my gosh. Ma will never believe it."

Sitting down at a beautifully decorated table, Amber was enjoying a plate of pineapple and some sort of seasoned chicken. She didn't eat shellfish though it did look wonderfully cooked. Ma always told her never to eat anything that carried its house around with it. Who knows the last time its been cleaned.

She also was drinking champagne. Champagne! Amber was clearly living the high life tonight!

"Yeah, I was. I mean, I had written it for you." She gave him a small smile. "Come on, we can talk more on the ship (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/23564.html?thread=4708108#t4708108)."
