Hotel Dann Carlton Quito, Sunday, October 13, 2019 [Quito, Ecuador]

After a slight misadventure through the portals that involved a very surprised Beaker, a show full of Muppets, and Anakin being shot from a cannon (he's fine, but his hair is ruined), the Fandomites arrived in Quito, Ecuador in the late afternoon, which was not enough time to go very far in their explorations, but enough to hit the Parque La Carolina, a 165.5 acre park in the center of Quito and a five minute walk from their hotel, the Dann Carlton Quito. Despite its location near the equator, the temperatures are very fall-like today, hovering around 72F (22C) until it cooled down even further when the sun went down at 6.

"Sometimes you have to try and talk your way through things first," Kennedy said, sighing like she was just reciting it because she had to (which was a bit of an exaggeration), "but sometimes you just have to face up to the fact that it's gonna come down to punching."

She gave him a good solid high five back, making sure not to make it too solid.

"Yeah, I think we're going to get along fine."

"Does that mean you're a teacher too?" Man, he needed to get out an socialize more. "Or a guest. Am I gonna get sexiled? Because you need to follow the sock on the door system."

Kennedy burst out laughing. "Teacher," she got out between chuckles. "I'm a teacher. And unless my girlfriend magically shows up here like an adorable red-headed stowaway, the sock system is not gonna be a thing here, don't worry."

"Alright, I can deal with that," he replied. "We are gonna need to find extra pillows, though. Not for a fort, but because I like to sleep in a sort of pillow exo-suit."

It was a goof, but in this podcast, goofs were canon.

Oh look, there went Kennedy's left eyebrow, steadily creeping up toward the ceiling.

"A . . . pillow exo-suit," she echoed, not even sure where to start figuring out what that would be like. "You know what, I've heard weirder. I can call down to the front desk, see how many they'd be willing to send up?"

"On it," Kennedy said, and sauntered over toward the room phone. A quick, even cordial phone call ensued, and even if it was in Spanish the overall confident ease of her tone made it clear that she was good at this kind of persuasion. You could say she had expertise in it, even, despite not being a rogue or a bard.

She hung up the phone with a satisfied nod. "Housekeeping should be up in a few with about . . . six or eight more, is that gonna be good?"

"I am buying you drinks for this. But not room drinks. Those are tiny."

Nah, patron pacts weren't the kind of contracts Kennedy tended to deal in, and anyway, she lived with Willow. Their house did not need any more magic in it.

"And a rip-off," she added, not like she couldn't afford it easily. "But also, way too much effort, yeah?"

"Also, keeps you from enjoying the local culture! I don't even know what they drink here, but I'm gonna try it."

Was she some kind of hexblade, then? Because she had sort of gotten her powers from a mysterious mystical weapon!

"Also that," Kennedy agreed with a grin. "What the hell's the point of being halfway around the world if you're going to stick to the same ol' same ol'? Might as well have never left, in that case."

Don't make her throw down for Willow's sake, Magnus. She'd do it.

"I mean. He did make me, against my will, cut off a buddy's arm to save his life from some ghost possessed virulent crystals once. And there was also the time we got stuck in a video game because of him."

Then again, she hadn't been around for the evil nerd trio but she was definitely, painfully aware of their existence, sooooooo. Kennedy tilted her head in a mild bit of concession.

"Okay, that, yeah. Definitely of the inconvenient."

Note how neither of the actual scenarios that Magnus had described made her so much as double take.
