Before we arrive at our final destination for the evening, we have a little more driving to get through. We drive towards the mighty Eyjafjallajökull Volcan--the one that erupted in 2010-- in the setting sun, stopping along the way at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Seljalandsfoss is quite special because you are able to walk behind the waterfall, which gives you another perspective on these 60 m high falls. There is one final stop before we come to our accommodation for the night, the beautiful Skógafoss Waterfall, which descends elegantly into the Skógá River.

Now that you have thoroughly waterfalled out--not you, Sidon--we arrive at our stop for the evening: the Volcano Huts and their elaborate tents for glamping.

Yep. Glamping. Outside. In tents.

We know you're tired. Believe us, this is worth getting out the bus for, especially since the guides have timed it so we see Seljalandfoss as the sun sets.

The first waterfall they'd visited had certainly seemed like it would have been a dream to swim up if not for obvious issues in temperature, but this place....this place! Sidon found himself rather struck by this one. Sidon, who had grown up in Zora's Domain, with its coral flora and glistening mountains, waterfalls flowing at every turn and vast vistas of nearly all of Hyrule from towering cliffs. And that was precisely what did strike him about it; he may have been hard pressed to believe that anywhere on Earth could even begin to compare to the beauty of his homeworld.

And yet...here they were.

...Too bad they had to bungle it all with all this cold!

HOTEL

Well. Tents. Volcano Huts has set us up with two-person tents that are fully equipped with twin or double beds, chairs to lounge in and tables to hold your luggage. Each tent has an electric, gas or woodburning heater. Down duvets, and woolen blankets provide extra warmth and comfort.

The restaurant, toilets and showers, are located next to camp, and the sauna and small pool are just a few steps away.

In the evening you can sit by your tent and enjoy the view over the Þórsmörk mountains, or place yourself next to the campfire to exchange stories with fellow campers, over a warm drink.

After a suitable period looking at the lights, Steve retreated to the warmth of the tent and buried under allll the blankets.

Restaurant & Bar

The restaurant and bar are not very far from the tents, and they've set up a nice buffet for us, as well as a very patient bartender to provide warm, strong drinks.

He's not carding, but there are more chaperones than students on this trip, so play those odds how you'd like, kids.

Brooke was absolutely ending her night in the pool, but she was also going to take advantage of dinner and a drink.

Anakin was not a huge fan of being cold, so he was heading to the bar for something hot to drink before heading back to his tent.

The clear sky from the daytime has extended into the evening and the sky is a beautiful riot of colors tonight.

Sit around the warmth of the fire and admire the show--it's the reason we came here, after all.

Sabine was skipping the fire to get to a darker spot nearby-ish where she could sit and see the lights better. Okay no, This was what she came for.

This place reminded her of Vesrah a bit, in an ongoing theme of making her feel more at home than she had since leaving Exandria, so Keyleth had no trouble finding herself a nice comfortable spot a ways off from the fire (the darkvision she got from her elven heritage was always a nice bonus) to just lie back and stare happily up into the sky.

... She was sitting in awe and staring up at the sky. Could keep staring up at the sky for hours.

"Oh," she murmured softly to herself as she watched the colors dance. "Okay, this world isn't all bad..."

It had been difficult to miss the lights in the sky.

It wasn't Kanan's first time seeing Earth's lights, no. But every time he did, they stole his breath a little bit. Here, so far north, with the colors as vivid as they were as they shifted and danced across the sky, there was just something so...

His throat tightened a little and he stood to walk away from the fire. To get a better look at the lights without the flames obscuring his vision. Really. And not at all because this sky was something so painfully familiar, reminiscent of the lights in the sky of Ilum, reminding him of a time long behind him and a world that the Empire had carved entire pieces away from. A wounded planet left to bleed lava as it was mined to the core, a painful echo of the wound in the Force that the loss of this world and the Order that had considered it sacred had caused.

Just a few minutes to himself. Just to see the sky more clearly. That was all.

And she was not going to think about how much fun glamping was not gonna be with a baby tonight.

Convincing a boy who'd spent his lifetime being terrified of the dark because of the things that lurked within it to be down with glamping was a pretty hard sell, even if Prompto knew that this place didn't have daemons like the ones in Eos. And it definitely helped that he was surrounded by, you know, most of the student body and teachers. And it helped that he'd put pretty good money on the idea that a good number of them could easily take out a daemon in just a good swift hits.

He'd never even seen a sky full of stars before coming to Earth. And now he was watching this.

Man. Daemons were the absolute woooooooorst.

Steve was not wild about cold and ice, but the lights were far too pretty to miss due to a little slight trauma. He pulled himself close to the fire, not minding that his view was a little obstructed. He'd much rather be warm.

Spa & Natural Warm Pool

You can relax in the small pool and sauna out by the edge of the Húsadalur woods.

The manmade pool has geothermally heated water from the nearby Húsadalur Valley, a sauna and showers.

Showers are located in a building close by and outdoors showers are located right by the sauna and pool. Overnight guests at the Volcano Huts are welcome to use the facilities at will.

Yes, she had found some water to boil herself in! Jack changed into a swimsuit made of men's swim trunks and a gym bra and threw herself into the hot water like she'd been dehydrating in the sun. Which she had not been even though the sun was out.

She had it to herself for the moment and she enjoyed splashing around in it for some time, not so much swimming as just playing. Finally relaxing against the side of the pool and enjoying the steam coming off it in the chill air, she let herself mellowly people watch. Kanan was off by himself. Had been for some time. His body language wasn't good.

Tucking her lower lip between her teeth, Jack let out a short, sharp whistle. Because she was a brat, she copied Hernando's tune from the week prior. Shave and a haircut, two bits.

I can't see 'glamping' or that style of tent without thinking of the Fyre Festival fiasco and I'm glad the group here is having a better time! :D
