Temple of Nemesis - Sunday (Team 1)

The trek to the temple hadn't been easy. The gods liked their privacy and, even with their tenuous hold on the mortal world these days, they had managed to keep the team from teleporting in directly. But through sheer determination, they had made it. The temple was dark inside, abandoned due to strange occurrences that happened to expeditions who trekked up here. Strange for normal people, anyway. To Fandomites? Not so strange. Now all they had to do was find the Weapon of Zethus. The problem was that they didn't know what it looked like and the temple wasn't about to offer answers without a fight.

Arrival/Mingle

Look around, light some torches, have a snack. When the torches were lit, the main chamber of the temple consisted of pillars holding up the ceiling, stone walls and ceilings and an altar. All around were depictions of the goddess Nemesis, a stern-looking woman with a whip. A set of scales was also a common motif. She is the goddess of vengeance and retribution though, so tread carefully.

When they'd finally made it here, Millie stopped for a few moments to catch her breath, then put her hands on her hips and stared up at Nemesis. "Goddess, but she reminds me of Asheth," she said musingly.

"Wow," Lee said, looking around. "I...cannot wait to tell my father about this."

Descend

Whether by chance, accident or intention, a block of the temple wall was pushed in and the stones before the altar sank into the mountain to reveal a staircase into darkness.

Toby so didn't mean to push on the wall when he'd leaned against it waiting for the other dudes to finish looking at the boring structure already.

"Uh, guys? I think I found an entrance."

"Sure it's an entrance and you didn't just break something?" Lee asked, coming up behind Toby.

"Ha," Toby rolled his eyes. "There are like, stairs and stuff. Maybe we should throw your shirt in and see how far it goes."

The Maze

The staircase led to a platform with another staircase leading down into a maze. The team could see the maze from above thanks to reflected lighting from outside through shafts, but to get through it they were going to need to walk through it on ground level. There were a few options available to them. They could all go together or someone could shout instructions from above or drawing it and trying to go from the drawing was possible. It was up to the team to work together to get through.

"I've done some navigation before," Lee said, glaring at the maze. "Not like this though."

Toby shrugged. "I found Kevin that time he died, but there was like, magic involved or something."

"I do know like, left from right, though. I hear some people aren't so good at that."

The Elements

The end of the maze led to a stone chamber. The door on the other side was sealed shut and would not move for anything or anyone without being unlocked. There were four pedestals forming a square in the center of the room.



Each pedestal had a symbol on it representing fire, water, air or earth. What would happen if the element was applied to the pedestal? What if all four were applied at the same time?

"This is different," Toby said, lowering himself to let Lee off gently. He wouldn't want to upset Kaylee by dropping the hottie on his head.

Lee climbed off Toby and looked around. "I'll say. What do you think we're supposed to do?"

"Well, I'm guessing those aren't team logos for some sport I've never heard of," added Anders with a glance at the pedestals, because he was helpful like that.

". . . or ones I have heard of, for that matter."

Choose Wisely

Once the door unlocked, the team was free to enter the chamber where the weapon was kept. The only problem was that there was more than one weapon hanging from a rack coming down from the ceiling. A plaque, enchanted to be understood in any language, read "Choose wisely. The power of gods is precarious at best and even the strongest can fall at the hand of the weakest man."

There were four choices - a sword, an axe, a spiked club and a sling with a rough stone resting in its leather that had somehow not rotted after all these centuries.



What would Indiana Jones Illinois Smith do?

Choosing the correct weapon will open a staircase leading directly to the surface. Choosing the wrong weapon will cause the chamber to close and start to flood.

"Okay." Lee looked at the weapons. "Which one do we need?"

Anders glanced at the weapons, had a moment of 'oooh, shiny,' at the sword, and frowned. "Why do I feel like there should be an arrow or something?"

"Please," Lee said, making a face. "Everyone knows that arrows only cause trouble and confusion. They're such useless weapons."

Back to the Surface and Fandom

It's evening back in Fandom now.

Lee had the rock and sling in his hands and was ready to head back to Fandom with the weapon.

This thing was so much better than an arrow.

Toby was more than happy to follow Lee to the surface. What an ass.

He and Kevin were so going to have some new fodder for their role-playing after this.

Mohinder followed Kaylee and Millie up the staircase, relaxing when he reached the surface and nothing happened to trip the exit.
