Beijing, China, Tuesday evening

Sure, you could take the bus back to the hotel, but then you'd miss out on the opportunity to eat Peking duck, take in a show full of kung fu fighters, and go dancing! Folks who stayed at the hotel can come join us for evening fun, as well.

Or you can go back and soak your screaming feet. We understand.

You can't come to Beijing and not have the Peking duck, and Da Dong Roast Duck is consistently rated as one of the best places in the country to try it. There will be other Chinese food as well, but trust us. Try the duck.

Amaya had definitely had duck before, but nothing like this before! She dug in voraciously, though perhaps with some...questionable manners, and considered getting herself a second one. It was a shame she wasn't much of a cook herself, or else she'd ask for the recipe. For now, though, the ducks back on the island would be safe...from her and her appetite, at least.

"Why is the duck's head still on the plate?" Paris hissed to whoever was close enough to hear her.

"Why wouldn't it be?" asked Amaya, who only thought to swallow the food in her mouth after she'd posed the question. Her tone was cheerful, though, as it was very difficult to be anything but cheerful with food like this in front of her.

"Can you eat it? It's just...staring at me," Paris said.

"You can eat anything," said Amaya encouragingly, while still very much eating herself, "if you try hard e'uff!"

"That is not a glowing recommendation," Paris said.

"I'm sure you could just eat around it, too," Amaya offered with a smirk, and this time she didn't even have duck in her mouth when she said it. "If you don't like your food looking right back at'cha, though, maybe you should think about goin' vegetarian, but even then, sometimes even potatoes got eyes."

"I don't mind eating meat," Paris said, turning the duck head away from herself. "I just don't like when it's watching me do it."

Though if that other place is McDonald's, we reserve the right to mock you a bit.

The school has arranged for a nighttime tour of Beijing. Your driver takes you around to see Beijing CBD (the most ridiculously upscale mall this side of Dubai), SOHO Business Street, Changan Street, Tiananmen Square, Wangfujing Food Street, and Houhai Lake Bar Street. Stop at any (or all!) of the points of interest for a drink, a snack, or a ton of photos!

Shopping plus bars? It really shouldn't take a genius to figure out what Summer was planning on doing that evening, trying maybe a little bit to needle in on some word of where all the locals might go when they went out, something a little less touristy, but, at the same time, it was a Tuesday night....

She was just going to leave herself open to the wind swaying her off the tour path if the opportunity presented itself, and just enjoy the ride if it kept her going straight.

Yes, Steve had gone for Peking duck, but if you thought that meant he wasn't hungry enough to also eat just about everything he saw on Wangfujing Food Street, you were so, so wrong.

Brooke was absolutely stopping at the bars. She might not party like she used to, but she could still enjoy the nightlife, and take a bunch of pictures with all the new friends she was making.

Not into bar hopping? The Red Theatre is a must-see in Beijing! Enjoy a 70-minute Shaolin kung fu performance that displays the eye-popping athleticism and artistry of this famous Chinese martial art. See skilled performers whip out lightning fast kung fu kicks, leaps and daredevil tricks as they tell the story of a boy practitioner at Shaolin Temple, known as the birthplace of kung fu. You also see contortion- and drunken boxing-style kung fu during the show.

It had been a little easier for Sidon to keep a low profile in the villages and historical sites so far, but the city was a whole different beast, he'd found. Looming over everyone as he did, it was no wonder he was garnering a lot of attention from the other people on the street, some of them even wanting a photograph, which felt a bit strange, though he was happy to oblige. Still, it was nice to find something to do where he could be out of the spotlight and just enjoy watching other people instead of people watching him for a change.

The fact that it was such an exciting show with a fantastic tale to go along with it that gave him some interesting new ideas was a very pleasant bonus, as well!

Anakin was enthralled by the performance, noting the parts that were similar to things the Jedi learned.

Kaylin was enthralled by the kung-fu performance. She'd been studying martial arts for a while now, thanks to Dr. Lecter, but this was just amazing. After the show she was up chattering away in Mandarin and what she'd picked up of other dialects to whomever would listen, asking about how they did different moves and getting some one-on-one demonstrations.

Students will find themselves in the Premium Twin (or Premium Queen if it's funnier) rooms, with views of the Great Wall from the window, and wifi so you can Instagram that shit. Teachers and their guests are sleeping in the Deluxe Queen rooms, slightly larger than what the students get, and with better, unobstructed views of the Wall. (Room assignments are here. There's plenty to see and do back at the Brickyard. Learn to play mahjong in the card room. Watch a movie in the video & game room (tonight's feature: inexplicably, Amélie). Shop in the lobby. Read a book and enjoy a drink in the lodge. Soak in the Great Wall views from the rooftop terrace. Sit in the Jacuzzi until your muscles stop screaming. Just let us know where you are so we can join you!

After a long day of hiking the wall, multiple trips on the toboggan, and being a seven-foot-plus shark person in the middle of Beijing, Sidon was more than ready for a soak in that Jacuzzi. True, it was quite a bit warmer than Sidon would have preferred, but it was wet and that was what really mattered.

"Ahhh," he sighed happily as he sunk down as much as he could, "I simply must look into getting something like this installed back home!"

Tomorrow we'll head to Xi'an, home of the Terracotta Warriors!
