Kaiser-Franz-Josef Hütten [Monday evening]

As the sun set, "crisp" became "distinctly chilly". So maybe add another layer if you're staying outside, or just stick to hanging out someplace with a nice, cozy fire.

There are four huts (well, huts that sleep eight and have saunas, living rooms, and fireplaces, so your definition of hut may vary), and everyone is paired up for sleeping (in rooms with either a double bed or bunk beds ~~depending on which is funnier to you~~, with shared living space for the eight of you to mingle, roast marshmallows, throwing raging parties involving schnapps, etc.

"It is cold out there," Ringo declared, apparently not at all embarrassed to state the super-obvious. At least it could get nice and toasty inside.

She was stripping out of her heavy (thought definitely not heavy enough) coat and gloves so she could sit way too close to the wood-burning stove and thaw out a little bit. She hummed happily, letting her eyes drift closed as feeling started to return to her fingers.

"But warm in here!" Sidon, who hadn't moved much from the sofa underneath his layers of blankets, responded back cheerfully. Still, he shivered a little around his hot cocoa, just thinking about the briskness outside.

"Yeah. I mean, the snow's nice and all, but," Ringo shivered for dramatic effect, "brrr."

She glanced over, noticing Sidon's mug. "Oh, that's a pretty good idea!" she exclaimed.

"Thank you," Sidon flashed a toothy shark smile, lifting his mug in salute. "I'm afraid I am made almost entirely of this stuff by now, since I haven't been without a mug of it since I discovered the fantastic stuff! It warms me up quite nicely. I must admit, I do not fare well in this weather, but I suppose I must get used to it. I hear winters back on the island might not be too dissimilar."

"Well, not this cold, but cold enough." Ringo grinned. "And I have to commend you on your instincts. After all, you discovered one of the most important things pretty quickly."

"Is there any left?" Ringo asked, eyes glancing around. "And do we have enough marshmallows?"

[ooc: No problem at all! I posted to it late enough that it might as well have been today's anyway!]

Sidon beamed a little at the praise. "You're too kind," he said, "and, yes, there should be plenty of cocoa, but what are marshmallows?"

Poor thing had been going this whole time without them!

Ringo's eyes went wide. "No one's introduced you to marshmallows?" she asked, clearly over-acting how horrifying this was.

She hopped up and began rummaging through the cabinets. "Hopefully we can correct that right now."

"That would be wonderful!" Sidon said, bouncing a little where he sat. He would leap to his feet in a dramatic fashion, but keeping the blankets in place seemed a bit more important to him at that moment. "Thank you! I must say, I don't think I'll ever run out of new things to learn about this world."

"Well, me, neither," Ringo tossed over her shoulder. "And it's not quite as new to me, you know."

Hmm, there had to be some-- ha!

"Gotcha!" Ringo declared triumphantly as she found a bag of jumbo marshmallows hiding at the back of one of the cupboards. She held it up above her head like some kind of prize she'd dug out of a treasure chest or something.

Sidon smiled, somehow managing to imagine some sort of dramatic music of reveal to go along with Ringo's triumphant display of her find. He craned his neck for a better look at what looked to be a package of small white puffs of....something.

"Huzzah!" he cried. "Great job! I knew you could do it!"

"I figured there was a pretty good chance we had some." Ringo grinned, tearing the bag open and fishing out a marshmallow which she tossed underhanded in Sidon's direction. "Here! Try one!"

"Oh!" Sidon cried out when he easily caught the thing, but he was expecting something much different, and it was crushed a little in his strong hand. "But it's soft! How fascinating!"

Fascinating, indeed. He opened up his palm and poked at the slightly squished marshmallow and laughed. "And this is something you eat? Do you put it in the hot cocoa?"

"Well, that one you should eat, just so you have a reference for how they taste." Like sugar.

"But traditionally you put them in your cocoa and they melt into it and are super-delicious."

"It's almost like...slightly more solid chuchu jelly," Sidon marveled, mostly to himself, poking at the marshmallow with a sharp nail and watching how it stuck, how the puncture in the soft substance stayed for a while then slowly seemed to pull itself back to its previous shape. He could only laugh again. "Marvelous!"

And, taking Ringo's advice, he popped the marshmallow into his mouth, chewing on it thoughtfully. And chewing. And chewing. Finally, he swallowed.

"Why, it's absolutely wonderful! Amazing! I have truly never tasted anything like it before in my life!"

"Amazing, right?" Ringo beamed. She walked over with the bag and held it out. "Now you should put some in your cocoa and stir it a bit so that they can get all melty on top!"

And while he was doing that, Ringo needed to go dig up some cocoa for herself.

Tonight, in honor of Canadian Thanksgiving, the restaurant has prepared a feast! An...Austrian feast, so plenty of dumpling soup in clear chicken broth, red cabbage, potatoes...and turkey!

They tried, you guys.

Mara wasn't Canadian, but she appreciated food she didn't have to pay for--even if the dumpling soup was a really strange consistency.

Food was food, though, right?
