Bali Hai lagoon, Monday

Welcome to Bali Hai's most famous lagoon.

You can hire a pedal boat,

or swim into one of the many caves.

The water's warm and welcoming, there are plenty of secluded beaches for privacy, and the sprawling building has a bar, food, and anything else you might need.

[ooc: Today's Bali Hai post! I so want to go swimming in one of those caves.]

Amber was loving the lagoon. It was so beautiful here, she almost hoped the island didn't shift or move again; she could stay here forever.

Mac was finally getting into tropical island mode, which considering they'd been here a week already? She was a bit behind the curve.

This was the sort of activity she could get behind, though. She was currently floating around lazily in a pedal boat in the shallows, listening to her iPod, and generally being lazy.

If there was anything that might make Adah lament the fact that she couldn't swim (besides, of course, her extreme fear of drowning one day), it was those caves, although, if she thought about it too much, thought of not only drowning, but also drowning with oppressive walls of rocks around you...

...well, it didn't take much to convince Adah to sit at the edge of a rather shallow spot, dipping the toes of her good foot into the water as she quietly read, actually enjoyed the sunshine, and tried to make up all the sorts of awful diseases that any bugs she noticed might be carrying. She did notice, as well, that, really, for the location, the insect count in the air here was surprisingly, almost unnaturally low...

With no classes for a few days, Lee found himself out and about, trying to get some sun on his skin.

And, once he spotted Adah (he could pick her out easily now), he wandered over and sat down next to her, a towel over his shoulders and both feet in the water.

"I think I'm going to rename you," he said without preamble. "Beach Bum."

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Adah grinned lightly and idly flipped to the next page of her book. Her eyes didn't leave the pages in the slightest, but her mind certainly did. Her head tilted, an expression to appear rather interested in the start of the next page, as she asked, "Do I get to change your name to Stalker?"

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Lee gasped and put a hand to his chest. "Stalker? Is that your way of saying I'm around too much?"

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not at all," Adah informed him, with a small nod of her head; even in joking, she couldn't quite bring herself to suggest that. Not when she was very distinctly of the opinion that the opposite was in fact true, and she knew that pretending otherwise would only lead to her having to admit it, which she would rather like to avoid. "It's just my way of alluding to the suspicion of the fact that you seem to manage to locate me when I'm seeking out the most remote escapes."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have a radar when it comes to you," he said and grinned. "But, I was coming out here anyway. I wanted to swim and get some sun. I'm getting a little pale."

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have to admit," Adah said, her thumb marking the pages of her book as she lowered it slightly and took an idle glance around, "this place is growing on me. This is the type of place parts of Africa tried to be, but failed spectacularly. I don't, however, think you're getting too pale, but this might be the bias of my own perpetual paleness altering my opinion."

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack ducked out for a few hours to explore the island a bit, enjoying the view.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, you're very pale," he said, teasing lightly before dropping the towel behind him and sliding into the water just in front of him. "Africa wasn't this...quiet, I guess? Or something else?"

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack splashed a "hello" at Amber as he swam by.

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wasn't this quiet," Adah agreed with a nod, "or as pleasant. The Congo is inland, so you don't get this kind of beautiful water there; the water there is muddy and smelly and filled with crocodiles. The air here is sweeter and isn't laced with constant bugs that might potentially be carrying a disease that will kill you, it seems. The trees, though...the trees and their thickness and their complete and total looming suggestion of their years and powers and utterly relentless offerings of life...the trees in the jungles were like this. Even I managed to climb a few of the trees there; you can't help it..."

She kicked a small splash of water his way. "You just got here, and already you have me babbling."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a gift," he said and ducked under the water to get his hair wet. He came back up and shook it at her. "Besides, I like when you babble. I might never get to see your home but I can picture it when you talk about it."

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I only lived there for three years," Adah said, softly, and gave the Eel a slight smile as she splashed lightly with her toes again; the nickname at this moment seemed just that much more appropriate, with the water gleaming on his skin, his hair. Such clear water, too, blues and greens, almost enough to make you think you wouldn't need to boil it to keep from getting sick. She wondered just how true that was, thought of all the things that could incubate in water, and really hoped he remembered to shower once he got out of there.

"I'd barely call that a home, even if those three years were pretty formidable. I wouldn't even feel comfortable calling Georgia home, either, though. If anything's home, it's hunched over, curled in front of a microscope."

A sample. She was going to snag a sample of this lagoon water before she left.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but when you think of being hunched over and curled in front of a microscope, where's that microscope at?" Lee asked.

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Adah ducked her head a moment, due to the sheer force behind the grin that broke out, unbidden, on her face. "In an immaculate, pristine, gleaming white laboratory, entirely funded by the generous offerings of a university willing to support me and my research for the greatness of science and learning. In that case, home is a place that has not happened yet, a place only in my imagination and wildest dreams."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Lee splashed some water at her and snickered. "Is it on Earth, at least?"

[identity profile] gkar-lastkhari.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Amber! I see we both made it to the island!" G'Kar took a seat on the sand nearby.

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Adah, grinning softly still, shrugged her good shoulder, rolling passive eyes toward the sky. "It could be on Uranus for all I care," or elsewhere that she wouldn't outwardly say, "so long as the equipment's good, the specimens sufficient for my intentions, and, most importantly, all expenses are paid in full, the check signed thanks to my utter brilliance."

[identity profile] ambassadorinara.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Inara's breath caught as she saw the caves, and within minutes she was stripping down to her swimsuit and tying back her hair, enchanted and drawn to the clear water and fascinating caverns, unlike anything she'd seen before.

Lee laughed and pushed back into the water some, swimming around. "I'm just curious because I'd want to make visits and if I have to fly a spaceship, well, I'll have to get a ship first."

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why do I feel," Adah asked, laughing a little herself, "that that scenario might be just as much about the flying as it is for the visiting? Besides, you can't visit my laboratory; you'll contaminate it."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're barring me from visiting?" Lee asked, trying to look as sad as he could manage. "But, I'd miss you."

And he would.

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not from visiting me," Adah pointed out. "From visiting the laboratory. The problem inevitable in this, of course, is that, in that situation, I'm not sure I'd ever leave the laboratory, so the trick would be getting me out."

There was a pause, as she thoughtfully, ponderously tilted her head. "Food, obviously. Meals would be a considerable harm to the sanitation of the work area. Sleep. Taking care of the necessary bodily functions. I suppose you being in the area for a visit might be able to be considered as possible encouragement to step out."
