SPRING BREAK, Cyseal, Monday Morning

Good morning, Fandom!

And a good one it was: the sun was shining brightly, infusing the city with warmth. Birds were singing, and a gentle breeze wafted through town (it only faintly smelled like sulfur up in the northern quarters).

Time to get up, explore Cyseal, and make friends with the neighbors!

And that was what she lacked. Kathy had the grace and the speed, but the raw power of Dante's attacks was missing. She could lash out with foot or fist or table leg, but even with the boost to force that she got from velocity (yay physics!), she didn't have the strength or the mass to shatter bone with a touch.

Kathy was movement, pure and simple. Where she went, chaos followed. Dante was a force of nature and death traveled in his wake.

It was never a contest. But it was still a lot of fun. "Batter up!"

"Planning to go for the windpipe?" Dante bellowed.

"I was thinking more of a spinal tap!" Kathy called back, slamming the table leg into the back of a skeleton. It fell forward, directly into Dante's path.

Dante slammed Rebellion down on its back-- and purposefully tangled it in the bone in the process. That brought the skeleton flying back up when he pulled up, and with a fierce kick he launched it well away from him, off the sword.

"Fuck yeah!"

Sex was great. Booze was great. But this? Those two days in Limbo City last weekend had not nearly given him his fill of this.

Kathy really wanted to say she had no idea what he was talking about. But the grin she wore as she dashed between splintered bone and flashing metal would put a lie to that before she even opened her mouth.

No time to think, just to move. Leap. Flip. Bounce. Snap. Springboard. Sweep. Snap. Spin kick.

"Hey, Dante! I've got a new dance partner for you!" She barreled another skeleton at him while sending her heel through the jaw of another.

"Where do you keep finding them bones?" Dante asked, cutting straight through the bone, cleaving the skeleton in two - and then having to hop backwards to keep it from hitting him, at that velocity.

"I just can't help myself when I'm tickling the old ivories!" Kathy said, elbowing a skull in the teeth, then followed it up to a hammer kick to the kneecap, crippling it. "I hope they don't all prove to have two left feet!"

"They will when we get done with them," Dante called, slicing a skeleton's legs clean off.

So much easier than demons. So much.

"C'mon, give me a little challenge, here!"

"When you're done with them, they're going to have no feet at all!" Kathy said. "And they're offering me a decent challenge, thanks! You wanna give me a hand?"

Honestly, there was only one response to that request that Kathy was expecting from Dante.

Five seconds later, a skeletal hand came flying in her general direction.

"I'm just saying, we can rearrange this shit."

And this right there was why she loved him.

"What, you think it would be more fun if they came together to form a giant skeletal dracolich?" she demanded. "I don't think we're allowed to teach the evil undead natives how to Voltron properly!"

Kathy, you are a goddamn nerd.

"Nah, I mean we give a bunch of them all-lefties, and the rest of them all-righties," Dante said.

And then he was silent on the goddamn nerd front, but only because he was kicking a skeleton's head right off its shoulders.

"I think we should focus on giving them all innies instead," Kathy declared, slamming her club through a skeleton's rib cage and cracking its spine. "Axe behind you!"

Dante caught it on Rebellion's edge just in time, and decided to abuse the situation by yanking the skeleton up into the air. He pushed off at the same time, finding himself suspended in the air for a few crucial seconds-- and hammered the skeleton back down to the ground, where it came apart.

"Guess you're all ground up."

"Stop wrecking physics!" Kathy wailed. "I need it to function properly to do my damn job!"

"We're nearly out of bad guys anyway," Dante shot back. "Behind you!"

Kathy didn't even pause to look, superballing off to the side before the sword that had been angling for her shoulder blades could do more that ruffle the fabric of her shirt as it whiffed by.

The sharp snap of its neck breaking under her foot was a wordless thank you.

"There you go," Dante said, slinging Rebellion over his shoulder. Casually, as one did with a big fucking broadsword. "No physics needed."

As one did, totally.

"One day, I'm going to sit you down and explain to you just why Newton's second law is relevant to my life," Kathy said with a sigh. "And yours, too, actually. It's going to happen, you'll see."

...It really wasn't.

She pulled her hair up off her neck, just now realizing how hot she'd gotten during that fight. "That's enough of the picturesque tour for me, I think. I'm going to grab a shower--or whatever--and then hit the beach. You coming back, too?"

Dante gave a casual shrug. "Not big on sunbathing," he said. "Maybe I'll go see if more of the locals want to rumble."

The downside of getting laid a lot was that eventually, you hit your limit, and you needed to go pursue your other coping strategies.

He was at that point, apparently.

Kathy shook her head. "You have fun with that," she said with a chuckle. "I want nothing more than to stretch out with a book in the sun for a few hours. I'm tapped for all rumble-related energies right now."

She glanced at the bottle of wine that had managed to escape the fight unscathed, though a wet patch in the earth around it suggested that it had lost some of its contents anyway. Picking it up, she took several swallows right from the jug before offering it up to him. "You can finish it off," she said. "I can get more in town."

She was going to devour her sausage on the way in, though. Damn.

"Thanks," Dante said. He snagged the bottle right from her hands and drank a big gulp. "Go wild. Have fun." Bang someone, or something.

He had a fresh two-day-not-a-few-hours taste of Limbo City on his mind, and worries about his own humanity to avoid, and a moral obligation to make sure he didn't crack again somewhere that didn't have as many truck-stop bathrooms where nobody gave a shit.

"Mmm, a visit to the library and then the beach," Kathy said,giving him an exaggerated wink. "I'm living on the edge."

Any plans to bang people would need to wait until she ran into Ezra or had a certain talk with someone and neither of those items were high on her list of things to do immediately after battling attack skeletons.

But hey, there was always later.

"See you around, Dante!" she called, giving him a cheery wave as she headed back towards the road that would lead them to town. "Don't do anything I wouldn't--ha!"

"I'm gonna do everything you wouldn't do," Dante called after her.

The grin stuck on his face until she was gone.

Then he let out a sigh, let his head drop against the back of a wall for a few seconds-- and headed out to go find more things to punch.
