SPRING BREAK, Cyseal, Monday Morning

Good morning, Fandom!

And a good one it was: the sun was shining brightly, infusing the city with warmth. Birds were singing, and a gentle breeze wafted through town (it only faintly smelled like sulfur up in the northern quarters).

Time to get up, explore Cyseal, and make friends with the neighbors!

"Don't worry, Dante," Kathy said, suddenly laughing. "I wasn't honestly accusing you of hogging people. You're as generous with your charms as you are selfish with your pizzas."

She tossed her hair over her shoulder and shook her head. "I'm just complaining that school skews one way more heavily than the other."

"Hey, if you want to kidnap a couple of guys and drag them back, I won't tell anyone," Dante said, shoving another chunk of pizza into his mouth.

... yeah, okay, now he felt a little better. (Or he was just more distracted.)

Funny how a little food (and some non-demonic distraction) could help with that.

"Good to know I have an accomplice," Kathy said. "Keep your eyes peeled for a few worthy kidnap victims and we'll see what we can do."

It wasn't the kick-things-in-the-face distraction he'd been hoping for, but it'd do.

"I got my eye on it," Dante said, tapping the scar on his eyebrow.

Hey, there were still plenty of opportunities for them to be attacked before lunch was over. Their current conversation would make it even dramatically appropriate!

Besides, kicking things in the face didn't result in pizza. You're welcome, Dante.

"We'll stash them in your room," she decided. "I'll pay rent in pizza."

Dante snickered. "Depends on whether the roommate will mind," he said.

Because he hadn't actually checked who that was yet.

Whoops.

If he had, he'd probably have been in a better mood this morning.

"Well, who are you sharing--what the fuck?" The last of Kathy's cheesebread hit the ground as Kathy jumped up to her feet. "Dante, behind you!"

Why were there skeletons charging towards them? THIS WAS NOT IN THE BROCHURE, FANDOM!

"...What the fuck?" Dante echoed, twisting around-- and staring.

Rebellion manifested on his back within seconds, his hand on the hilt without him having to really think about it.

"That was my question," Kathy said, looking around to see what she had to bounce off of. In a fight like this, speed and maneuverability were her best weapons--particularly since she hadn't really brought her other weapons along. "This isn't some kind of weird Limbo thing, right?"

"You see a bunch of skeletons running towards us?" Dante yelled.

That answered that question, then! Unless it was like that weekend in Fandom where there were demons and giant spiders and random techno-zombies attacking.

"Really wish I didn't, but yup!" Kathy called back before darting away. "Hang on!"

One of the nearby cottages had the remains of a table inside of it. And a table leg made for a decent enough club if she could get it free.

"I'm not hangin' on for anything, Kat," Dante said, darting forward. "What's rattling, assholes?!"

... Sorry, Kathy. But this was what part of him had been hoping for, coming out here: a nice, clean fight.

"Ha!" Kathy yelled, peeking out the doorway while she slammed the remains of the table into the floor in an attempt to free the skeletons. "Just you wait until you realize that skeletons take half damage from edged weapons!"

About that, Kathy...

...Dante lopped a skeleton's chest clean in two without much effort, the head end going flying in Kathy's general direction.

"You are such a fucking geek!"

"Wait, you got that reference?!" Kathy asked, finally getting the leg free.

And with perfect timing, she got it up in time to slam into the head that had come flying at her, sending it rocketing off into the underbrush.

"Homerun!" she called with a slightly manic grin and went dashing forward into the fray.

"I just know it's a fucking geek thing," Dante said. Don't expect him to know what geek thing. It just sounded like geek speed.

... he wasn't thinking about that much, lashing out at two incoming skeletons with aggressive, loud slices. "I got a bone to pick with you!"

"Careful guys," Kathy said, swinging her makeshift club into the side of one skeleton, then dodging out of the way of an axe-swing from a second. "He thinks he's pretty humerus. He'll try to tickle your ribs with those puns of his!"

A sword glanced right off of Rebellion; Dante shoved his shoulder into the offending skeleton, sending the guy flying backwards against the wall.

"No touching the sword."

"That wasn't even a pun," Kathy called over to him. She ran forward, then bounced into the air, using a nearby skeleton as a vault to get more air. She did a hammer kick into its skull as she sailed by, knocking it off balance.

Kick. Back flip. Crouch. Sweep. Lunge. Roundhouse. Spin kick.

Spin kick.

Spin kick snap.

She spent a lot more energy than Dante did taking out the same number of skeletons at once, but damn if they didn't go down with a satisfying crunch and snap of broken bones.

When Dante got going, he was an almost-perfect whirlwind of death; he overstepped sometimes, or lunged too far, but the kernel of future grace was obvious in his movements.

The sword moved fast, almost as fast as Kathy could. It cut through bone like it was butter.

Add in a kick, and a skull crashed against the wall, shattering.

And that was what she lacked. Kathy had the grace and the speed, but the raw power of Dante's attacks was missing. She could lash out with foot or fist or table leg, but even with the boost to force that she got from velocity (yay physics!), she didn't have the strength or the mass to shatter bone with a touch.

Kathy was movement, pure and simple. Where she went, chaos followed. Dante was a force of nature and death traveled in his wake.

It was never a contest. But it was still a lot of fun. "Batter up!"

"Planning to go for the windpipe?" Dante bellowed.

"I was thinking more of a spinal tap!" Kathy called back, slamming the table leg into the back of a skeleton. It fell forward, directly into Dante's path.

Dante slammed Rebellion down on its back-- and purposefully tangled it in the bone in the process. That brought the skeleton flying back up when he pulled up, and with a fierce kick he launched it well away from him, off the sword.

"Fuck yeah!"

Sex was great. Booze was great. But this? Those two days in Limbo City last weekend had not nearly given him his fill of this.

Kathy really wanted to say she had no idea what he was talking about. But the grin she wore as she dashed between splintered bone and flashing metal would put a lie to that before she even opened her mouth.

No time to think, just to move. Leap. Flip. Bounce. Snap. Springboard. Sweep. Snap. Spin kick.

"Hey, Dante! I've got a new dance partner for you!" She barreled another skeleton at him while sending her heel through the jaw of another.
