SPRING BREAK, Cyseal, Monday Morning

Good morning, Fandom!

And a good one it was: the sun was shining brightly, infusing the city with warmth. Birds were singing, and a gentle breeze wafted through town (it only faintly smelled like sulfur up in the northern quarters).

Time to get up, explore Cyseal, and make friends with the neighbors!

She caught his glance and raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?" she asked. "If that's a request for something to wash the pizza down with, you're going to have to use your words."

"Don't worry," Dante said, which on someone else would've been dry, but his face tended to get slightly too expressive when he tried it. "I didn't think you were hauling booze around."

"I have wine," Kathy said, sticking her tongue out at him.

Yeah, it was watered wine, but who was she to say no to the opportunity to enact any fantasy stereotype she could?

"I'd've bought something stronger if I'd known in advance I was packing a picnic lunch for you, too."

"No one told you to follow me out here," Dante pointed out.

Which, you know, was true. "Deal with your choices."

"Hey, I'm not the one being bitchy because I'm being offered pizza and something to drink," Kathy pointed out, remaining unfazed by his attitude. "I'm just saying that you're going to have to use your damn words if you want me to know what you mean when you give me little sidelong looks."

She pulled out a hunk of cheese bread and an apple, along with a small, corked bottle of watered wine and settled down in a patch of sunlight to snack. "Did you want a drink?" she asked.

Sorry, Dante. Kathy had plenty of experience staying calm in the face of worse moods than this.

"I didn't mean anything."

Because he didn't. Not every sidelong look was a sidelong look.

"But since you do have wine, fine, whatever, I'd like some."

That came out way too sullen.

Kathy wasn't even going to give him a look for that request, just pulled the stopper out of the bottle and passed it over. "If you're still hungry after the pizza, I have a few more apples, but you steal my sausage and we're going to have to fight."

It had herbs stuck all over it and had been made with cheese and garlic and possibly some kind of balsamic vinegar flavoring and Kathy was ready to go to bat over it absolutely.

Dante took the bottle and took a big swig before he deigned to answer that.

"Nah, I think there's plenty of sausage to go around."

... at least he was punning again?

Some of the stiffness bled out of her shoulders at that joke, yes. "So many new varieties to try while we're here, though," she quipped. "Might need to have some kind of sausage party to celebrate."

"I thought last week was the sausage party," Dante said.

And took another swig, regretting that the moment he said it, because the last thing he needed was to give Kathy any kind of excuse to talk about last week.

"Hey, what you get up to in the dorms is your business," Kathy said, more than willing to leave well enough alone. She still had to figure out what to do about Ringo, wasn't ready to talk about Anders, and that just left an afternoon of mind-blowing sex with Dante, which while good, wasn't exactly out of left field or anything. "Though maybe if you stopped hogging all the guys, it wouldn't be such a taco show the rest of the time. Greedy."

Thank fuck.

"I'm not hogging anybody," Dante said easily, "And I get plenty of taco."

"Don't worry, Dante," Kathy said, suddenly laughing. "I wasn't honestly accusing you of hogging people. You're as generous with your charms as you are selfish with your pizzas."

She tossed her hair over her shoulder and shook her head. "I'm just complaining that school skews one way more heavily than the other."

"Hey, if you want to kidnap a couple of guys and drag them back, I won't tell anyone," Dante said, shoving another chunk of pizza into his mouth.

... yeah, okay, now he felt a little better. (Or he was just more distracted.)

Funny how a little food (and some non-demonic distraction) could help with that.

"Good to know I have an accomplice," Kathy said. "Keep your eyes peeled for a few worthy kidnap victims and we'll see what we can do."

It wasn't the kick-things-in-the-face distraction he'd been hoping for, but it'd do.

"I got my eye on it," Dante said, tapping the scar on his eyebrow.

Hey, there were still plenty of opportunities for them to be attacked before lunch was over. Their current conversation would make it even dramatically appropriate!

Besides, kicking things in the face didn't result in pizza. You're welcome, Dante.

"We'll stash them in your room," she decided. "I'll pay rent in pizza."

Dante snickered. "Depends on whether the roommate will mind," he said.

Because he hadn't actually checked who that was yet.

Whoops.

If he had, he'd probably have been in a better mood this morning.

"Well, who are you sharing--what the fuck?" The last of Kathy's cheesebread hit the ground as Kathy jumped up to her feet. "Dante, behind you!"

Why were there skeletons charging towards them? THIS WAS NOT IN THE BROCHURE, FANDOM!

"...What the fuck?" Dante echoed, twisting around-- and staring.

Rebellion manifested on his back within seconds, his hand on the hilt without him having to really think about it.

"That was my question," Kathy said, looking around to see what she had to bounce off of. In a fight like this, speed and maneuverability were her best weapons--particularly since she hadn't really brought her other weapons along. "This isn't some kind of weird Limbo thing, right?"

"You see a bunch of skeletons running towards us?" Dante yelled.

That answered that question, then! Unless it was like that weekend in Fandom where there were demons and giant spiders and random techno-zombies attacking.

"Really wish I didn't, but yup!" Kathy called back before darting away. "Hang on!"

One of the nearby cottages had the remains of a table inside of it. And a table leg made for a decent enough club if she could get it free.

"I'm not hangin' on for anything, Kat," Dante said, darting forward. "What's rattling, assholes?!"

... Sorry, Kathy. But this was what part of him had been hoping for, coming out here: a nice, clean fight.

"Ha!" Kathy yelled, peeking out the doorway while she slammed the remains of the table into the floor in an attempt to free the skeletons. "Just you wait until you realize that skeletons take half damage from edged weapons!"
