Indiana Dunes State Park- Saturday daytime

Okay so temperatures dipped into the low 40's last night, but at least there was no rain! And while the morning started off cool, it would get to a sunny 57 by midday, which was good weather for things like hiking.

You could stay at camp if you wanted, but there were trails to hike and a beach to check out. And also as a plus, whether you left camp or not, you were almost guaranteed to end up with sand in your shoes. So there's that.

Okay. So there's the whole thing where Elsa and Barry in a tent together which makes things a tad awkward.

And then there's the giant puppy who kicks when he sleeps.

Couple that with a guy who barely sleeps at all and you got one tired Barry sitting outside the tent contemplating whether he should attempt to brew coffee over a campfire.

Sia came out of her tent looking pretty awake, but when she zipped up the tent and turned around to see Barry she had to ask, "You all right?"

Yes, that was Elsa offering a thermos of coffee Barry's way, one full of tea clutched in her own hand.

Eliot had never actually ended up in a tent last night. He'd had a perfectly nice night out under the stars, thanks, and he was up by dawn, Val hopping happily around his feet while he stretched and rolled up his sleeping bag.

He considered waking Parker and Hardison up for an early morning fishing trip or something, but honestly, Hardison's grumbling would just scare the fish away. He'd let them sleep in; it as part of why he'd decided to crash outside the tent in the first place.

Also because all that damned crap in the tent was an affront to camping. And, you know, because he'd be too tempted to climb into that stupid bed with them, and that'd be awkward.

Jalian had slept outside, too; the weather was pleasant, so why not? She nodded her approval at Eliot - at least someone else was properly appreciating being outside!

Since Eliot had elected to sleep outside last night, Parker and Hardison had taken the time to come up with another idea to further Plan E. But before they were gonna go put that into motion, Hardison was going to settle in and fix the electricity. They'd roughed it enough for one night, hadn't they?

Campsite [Sat am]

For breakfast, sitting around at camp, pouring sand out of your shoes, braving the scary bug bathroom, etc.

Four was attempting to cook scrambled eggs over the fire.

They were supposed to be black on the bottom, right?

Kitty had some instant coffee, and had boiled some hot water. And okay, just because instant coffee was gross didn't mean it didn't have caffeine, so she was just going to drink it and maybe make faces as she did because she hadn't remembered creamer.

Unlike Barry, Elsa had actually slept fairly well. She was used to Canute's kicking, and didn't mind the cold in the least. Not to mention the fact that she was still a bit worn out after all that had gone on. Elsa? Was looking fairly okay as she made her way to the campsite in the morning to get herself some breakfast, huge dog at her side.

Canute was at least well-trained enough to know not to go sniffing at other people's bacon. Which was good, because he was getting big enough now to be able to drag Elsa clear across the campground if he had a mind to, these days.

"Morning," Raven greeted, smiling at both Elsa and Canute. She'd been meaning to find a chance to talk to Elsa more -- not even about anything in particular, just to talk. Breakfast at a campsite seemed like a good opportunity. "It's gorgeous out here, isn't it?"

"It's beautiful," Elsa replied, before fully realizing who she was talking to. When she did glance up, she took a double-take, and then dropped her gaze again, toward her feet.

Canute, on the other hand, was more than happy to make his way over, tongue lolling out of his head and tail wagging behind him to say hello.

"I owe you such an apology."

Elsa gave Jalian a little smile and a wave in turn at that as Canute barked a happy greeting.

"We'll never say no to a good stick," she replied, nodding her hello. "And we're practically spoiled for choice out here, aren't we?"

There are plenty of trails, ranging from the easy Heron Rookery Trail to the moderate Pinhook Bog Trail to the difficult Glenwood Dunes Trail. Just remember to keep your dogs on leashes!

People who really want to push themselves can do the Three Dune Challenge, and those who don't can take the easy trail to the beach.

Her hike wasn't going as quickly as Mara wanted because the sand kept getting into her shoes.

Ugh, sand. She couldn't imagine coming from a place where it got everywhere like this.

Glenwood Dunes Trail

If she wasn't this close to graduation, at which point she'd have to go home and return to Imperial Knight training and probably running for her life, Sia might have gone with an easier trail. Instead she decided to push herself a little and do the hardest one. She wasn't regretting it so much because it was hard, but because this was a vacation.

Alex did enjoy hiking, even if she didn't get much opportunity to do it. So she decided to give one of the trails a go, starting with the easiest one.
