The Pacific Princess, Friday Evening, February 27, 1978

As the Pacific Princess steams back toward L.A., it's time to enjoy your last evening on board by dressing up! As...you, in fancy clothes, not a square dancer, a Woman Of The Future, or an extra from Moonsky & Butch. It's Formal Night! Steaks and lobster for everyone! Make sure to bust out your very best powder blue tuxedo. You packed it, right?

[Up early for great "my car is in the shop and I don't know when I'll have to suddenly skedaddle," and open for business! Morning post | Rooms | Dinner | Disco Dancing| Entertainment | Other Exploration | OOC]

Flick wasn't really feeling like going out tonight. He'd had a rough few weeks and just couldn't get himself motivated to do anything but lay in bed and read.

Four was wearing a suit and staring a lot at the dresses.

It was like what Abnegation would wear if they ever dressed up. Or had more than the one outfit choice.

Alana wasn't sure how she felt about the dress she'd bought in town, but it fit right in with what she saw at the other tables. Between it and the braids, she almost felt like a different person.

Not a different person who liked mayonnaise and jello in the quantities it turned up in in the meal, though. That would have been a bridge too far.

Hannibal had a tux and he was wearing it.

It was not powder-anything. It was black. If that got him odd looks from some of the 1970s denizens for being old-fashioned, that was their problem.

Anna was chiding herself by the time she spotted Elsa at dinner. She had told Barry (http://fh-trips.livejournal.com/112438.html?thread=20596022#t20596022) she would help. She was going to. Really. She'd just been so distracted all week. Tropical festivities! The ocean! Mexico!

Although really, it was a good thing she hadn't known where Mexico was. You'd expect it to be scorching hot, the way people dressed. But some of the days, the wind got chilly.

Maybe she was nervous about talking to Elsa again (http://elated-or-gassy.livejournal.com/1828.html), since everything. Except she shouldn't be. It wasn't like anything had changed. Okay, everything had changed? But she didn't feel differently about Elsa. She just ... worried that Elsa was going to regret telling her, and pull away, again. So she was giving her space.

Well, this seemed like enough space. And so she claimed a spot near her sister at dinner.

"What happened with you and Barry?" she asked, in lieu of saying 'hello.'

(mod with permission, and again, she only thinks it's a touch chilly)

Elsa blinked up from her... look, it wiggled, and she ate it out of politeness, but she wasn't going to call it food. That was just not going to happen, thank you.

"Hello to you too, Anna," she said mildly, setting down her spoon. It was probably for the best. It was difficult to eat frozen gelatin anyway. "Barry has decided that he'd much rather yell and point fingers and walk away when I mention that I need to step up to take a throne someday than sit down and talk it out like a reasonable person. Beyond that, I don't know that there's really anything left to say about him."

She was angry. She was so, so angry.

"Yeah, he ... he seemed kind of upset," Anna said, aiming for diplomacy and failing. "Like, sort of a lot."

He had yelled. And used mean words that she didn't quite know the meaning of. But you could kind of guess with words like that.

Anna was now saving those words up for a special occasion. Something that really needed the oomph.

"Is this because of what I said about Hans?" she asked, abruptly. "Because I didn't mean it like that."

It was the last night, so Mara sucked it up and danced disco.

...it was surprisingly fun, shh.

Nathan didn't think he'd dance or anything but he would grab himself a drink and sit down and think about dancing.

Maybe. Possibly.

Eventually, the bartender offered Nathan a bight-colored drink he hadn't ordered. If he looked, he'd see Anders sitting not too far away and smiling at him.

Anders thought he was clever.

Nathan spent a few seconds looking at his drink in confusion before he thought to look around. When he spotted Anders, he relaxed and toasted him before taking a drink.

It tasted pretty darn good.

Anders was sufficiently frightened by the pastel tuxes during his peek into the formal dining room to decide that wasn't going to happen, and dancing with Elsa last night had actually been less than terrible. So here he was, sipping a piña colada with an enormous wedge of canned pineapple on the rim and contemplating shaking his groove thing.

It was their last evening here, and they were doing this on the school's dime.

Was Edward at the bar, making the most of both facts? Yes. Yes, he was. Mmm, "light" booze.

Anakin had learned to embrace the enthusiastic goofiness of the ship entertainment, so he was watching this last night with a bemused smile on his face.

Atton had a drink and really nothing at all to do. Some hot women kicking their legs up in goofy costumes? ... Yeah, why not.

Not that he looked particularly enthused by it, but he was there.

Hannibal had, in lieu of a working phone, sent a message to Karla and Warren's cabin asking her to please meet him after dinner. He was still in his tuxedo, though the wind was making merry havoc with his hair in defiance of product. But it was lovely out, and quiet in this corner as he waited.

[Because someone had to do the heartfelt-talk-by-a-railing thing!]

Karla, wearing red and feeling quite sassy in it, was happy to meet up with Hannibal as soon as she got his message. "Asking to meet me in a dark and secluded section of the ship?" she asked, feigning breathlessness. "Oh, Hannibal, I don't know what to say."

Barry was staring out at the ocean wondering exactly how he had become such a jerk on one boat trip.

Granted, he had always been a jerk but this trip had made him a raving idiot.

Maybe by staring at the ocean he'd figure this shit out between him and Elsa.

...

Yeah. Probably not.
