At Sea, 1978 (Monday, February 23rd)

Hope you'd all gotten settled in nice and snug last night, folks, because today is going to be spent out at sea. No stops, no fancy sights, no tourist traps: just you, the ocean, and the wonders of the late 70s.

You want drinks? There's drinks. You want pools? There's pools. You want disco?

Oh, there's disco...

The Pacific Princess--or the Love Boat, as the crew keeps winkingly calling it--is large enough, if a little heavy on shag carpet, beige furniture and weird modern art installations. There's plenty of space to ramble, so take your time and explore!

Everyone will find their berths on the Aloha Deck, with outside twin rooms (that have either twin beds or a double for your moddable needs) that provide a view of the ocean as it goes past. (Keep the NSFW in private journals, please!)

Explore the various buffets around the ship! There's one on either side of the pool on Lido deck! Eat nothing but dessert if you want! No one's gonna judge. Much.

You're on a cruise ship in 1978. You know you want to see a live show. And oh, this is a live show all right, pulling all the stops: sparkles! Sequins! Disco! Yes, it's Sparkle's Very Worst Nightmare!

Maybe you're in the mood for a swim on the Lido Deck? Of course you are. There's another pool further aft, if you prefer it.

Enjoy the view or play a game of shuffleboard! Does anyone under 80 know how to play shuffleboard?

There are plenty of shops spread out across the boat. Buy some more weather-appropriate clothing! Get gaudy souvenirs! Send a postcard! Maybe it'll even get to its final destination someday!

Confession: I've never seen an episode of the Love Boat.

Double confession: I know how to play shuffleboard.

Just not the American version. The other one.

You know, Atton hadn't realized how long it'd been since he'd last had to break out the Earth clothes. Getting used to t-shirts (the heavy-duty Jedi-style pants looked Earth enough to stick around) all over again, pulling on the short sleeves every now and again because they fell weird.

But hey, at least he'd been smart enough to pack a Metallica t-shirt so he didn't feel like as much of a moron as most of these people looked.

He hung around the sun deck, watching people pass on by. Kinda staring at that shuffleboard thing.

Edward could have spent time within the ship itself, enjoying the free food. And in any other situation, he would have.

But he was on a ship. At full sea. He'd long since had dreams of this, and while the ship was nothing like what he'd imagined...

Yeah, he was practically hanging over the railing, staring at the water and grinning broadly.

... and Cassandra's.

She had walked into the hall accidentally. It had been an accident. And then someone had closed the doors behind her.

Now she was just... standing there, her hand held up to her face, her expression a silent scream of horror.

"Andraste save us all."

Okay, Four hadn't realized just how high this ship was last night and was feeling a little queasy as he stared down at the water, but he was Dauntless and so he'd stay up on the Sun Deck just to be a stubborn son of a bitch, and also because he was a little mesmerized by the terrifyingly tanned old people playing shuffleboard.

Seriously, it was like they were made out of mahogany or something. Yikes.

It was a good thing that Mara didn't have a great deal for her authentic (thank you, gift shop!) bikini to hold in...because there wasn't a lot to her bikini.

She wasn't going to be out in the sun long, because the shop only sold baby oil and looked at her weirdly when she asked for sunblock. There was blending into the locals and there was catching on fire due to redheadedness. So for now, she had giant sunglasses, barely there swimwear and a trashy paperback she was pretending to read while she soaked up appropriate pop culture references and slang from around her.

She was already deeply tired of being hit on.

"And I thought Mon Cal ballet was terrible," Anakin muttered, sinking into his chair and wondering if it was overkill to try to blind himself with a fork or something.

Emma was in fact eating mainly dessert items, largely because it was the thing that most resembled actual food.

Flick hadn't made it back to his room last night. That was probably not a good thing but whatever, he really hadn't been thinking.

Instead, he'd had too much to drink and ended up on a lounger near the pool, asleep. He was still there this morning, awake and using his sunglasses to block the bright light.

He probably needed to go back to his room but he wasn't moving just yet. The sun was warm and the lounger was comfortable and his head was pounding. So, staying still was a thing.

"Why is everything suspended in gelatin?" Four murmured as he filled up on never-gonna-fail-you chocolate cake. "It's creepy."

Travis was pretty stoked to be able to swim. He'd have called Hatton and Kyle to gloat if his phone worked. Alas, he'd just have to hope they believed him when he did get back to working technology.

Now, he was just going to dive in and enjoy.

Emma took an icing covered pastry, because baked goods totally counted as healthy, right? "I don't know," she said. "I'd complain to management, but I'm pretty sure it was a decade wide problem."

Travis swam up to the edge of the pool closest to her and said, "That doesn't look like educational literature there."

Probably because it wasn't.

Wandering around the ship eventually led Nathan to a row of shops. The clothing looked ridiculous but that didn't stop him from checking it out. He'd never seen clothing like this save for in pictures and he guessed he never would again.

Anders wasn't actually much of a swimmer, but with a full day at sea and little else to do, it seemed like a good time to try to change that. He changed into the shorts he'd bought in the gift shop and lowered himself into the water for some dog-paddling that eventually turned into slightly more ambitious swimming.

Before partaking of the ship's other amenities, Hatter sat down for a big breakfast and a cup of tea. It might be the only trip he got to take on the school's tab so he was going to enjoy it.

Alana spent some time pacing the buffet trying to decide what looked the least gross, and ended up with a piece of pizza and some fruit. They were both pretty good, especially if she graded on a curve.
