Los Angeles, California, 1978 (Sunday, February 22nd)

The first sign that things weren't exactly right was the Hollywood sign: not exactly the tourist trap-y mandatory photo it was back in 2015. The next was the outfits of the other passengers: there's a lot of polyester. Like a lot. No one's worn hair this terrible unironically in decades other than Anakin. And that's when it dawned: this might be Los Angeles, and the school was definitely about to go on a cruise along the Mexican coast...but it wasn't in 2015.

Not at all groovy, man. And the worst part? You can't even Instagram the photographic evidence! All electronics have stopped receiving signals, too. Portalocity went hardcore this time. There's a little bit of time to explore where and when you've been dropped off before the ship disembarked, but not enough time to return to the island.

"To not have you singing Mandy at the top of your lungs." Because clearly that would be drunk Stiles' song of choice.

"Who's Mandy?" Nope, Derek. He lived to make you feel old.

Derek sighed. Sighed.

"You're not getting that drink now."

"What?" he asked. "What did I do?"

"You made me feel old. Didn't your parents listen to bad music when you were growing up?"

"I mean, I guess," he said. "But I never heard anything about a Mandy."

And yet more sighing.

"You're not even that much younger than me." But Derek was an old, bitter soul.

He smiled and patted Derek's cheek. "Then I shouldn't be making you feel old. So stop being grumpy."

That got another sigh, but it was more resigned this time. "I'm glad you could come on this despite the shag carpeting and polyester everything."

"Me too," he said. "Though I don't know if there is gonna be much romance with the tacky decor."

"I'll make it up to you," Derek promised.

"Well, there's the one drink I'm buying you." Yeah, he was bad at saying no. "What else could there be?"

"Nothing makes up for shag carpet," Derek replied, toeing at the offending thing. "What are the odds this is a waterbed?"

Now THAT would put a damper on their sex life.

Derek eyed the bed for a moment. But instead of doing that, he grabbed Stiles to toss him there instead.

He was playful as the strangest times.

Also it was a normal bed, thank god.

Derek quickly joined him there, stretching out on the non-water bed. "No school to worry about this week."
