Los Angeles, California, 1978 (Sunday, February 22nd)

The first sign that things weren't exactly right was the Hollywood sign: not exactly the tourist trap-y mandatory photo it was back in 2015. The next was the outfits of the other passengers: there's a lot of polyester. Like a lot. No one's worn hair this terrible unironically in decades other than Anakin. And that's when it dawned: this might be Los Angeles, and the school was definitely about to go on a cruise along the Mexican coast...but it wasn't in 2015.

Not at all groovy, man. And the worst part? You can't even Instagram the photographic evidence! All electronics have stopped receiving signals, too. Portalocity went hardcore this time. There's a little bit of time to explore where and when you've been dropped off before the ship disembarked, but not enough time to return to the island.

"Either, but I was thinking about the boat part," Anders said, with a small smile. "Only boats I've been in have been rowboats. This is ... something else."

He glanced over. "Is it new to you, too?"

"I knew what vacations were before this but we never really went on them," Nathan explained. "I've never been on a boat this large before."

"I wonder how it'll compare to the Skyrim trip last fall," Anders wondered idly. "Probably less ice, fewer dragons."

"I had fun during that trip," Nathan commented with a small shrug. "That was...almost familiar. Well, not the dragons but the environment and being able to walk almost everywhere."

"Same here. And we even have dragons at home,they just usually don't get so close," Anders said wryly. "Maker, it feels like longer ago than it was. We were still getting used to each other."

"And it wasn't too long ago in reality," he said, glancing out at the view they had. "Strange. A lot of time's passed since I first got here. I didn't expect it."

"We're coming up on a year," Anders acknowledged, a crooked smile on his face as he turned to see that view for himself. "And most of it's even been good. Surprising, but good."

Nathan kept himself from vocalizing some of the not so good thoughts, some of the loose ends he had. He took a breath.

"It'll be nice to go swimming," he said instead. "It'll be nice to not completely freeze when I go outside."

Anders was just distracted enough by his own thoughts that he didn't notice any hesitation in Nathan's tone.

"It will," he said. "I think I'm just excited to see a new place. Hopefully we'll get plenty of time off the ship to explore."
