Riften, Skyrim, Friday Afternoon/Evening

As the day started to wane, the spirits of Riften's townspeople certainly didn't, and it was probably clear from the bustling of the people that something was going on tonight. This would not be the night to stay indoors, that was for sure!

The Bee and Barb is considerably larger than Frostfruit, warmer, and built out of sturdy wood. Its rooms are larger and more lavish as a result, provide a tub of their own - though you'll have to go downstairs to get heated water for it - and even have their own small walled-off bucket-toilet area. Said bucket-toilet actually has a comfortable seat and is cleaned out twice a day, so that's a step up, isn't it?

There are either two twin beds or one queen bed to a room. Minor healing and resistance to frost potions are provided in the room, and the maid makes sure there's lavender flowers in each room, providing a pleasant smell.

The Bee and Barb's common room is larger than Frostfruit's, and while it doesn't contain a central fire pit, there are sconces everywhere keeping the place at a comfortable level of heat. It doesn't hurt that Riften is further south than Rorikstead, either.

Serving you is the Argonian Talen-Jei and his equally-lizardlike barkeeper Keerava. Neither peddles in dog meat, but many of the other delicacies of Skyrim are available. The local specialty is cheese. And fish. Lots of fish. Also, Talen-Jei is a connoisseur of cocktails, so if you want something really special to drink, ask him for suggestions!

The Bee and Barb is quieter than usual tonight; if asked, Keerava or Talen-Jei will be happy to tell you about the festival. They'll be closing up early to go, after all.

There's something special going on in Riften tonight: a celebration of the Dragonborn, and a festival to lead in the winter. There are lights everywhere, candles and fires lit by the Nords, and the square is decorated with flowers.

A large choir of rugged-looking Nord men has arrived in the center of the marketplace, surrounded by several bards with instruments. Once enough of a silence has fallen, they begin: softly at first, then building up to an incredible crescendo. The song is 'Dragonborn', and the choir sings loud enough to reach the very edges of Riften.

There is an enormous spread of food set up, ranging from wines and mead to meat and fish and cheese. The various cooks of the city - led by the Jarl's own chef - have done their absolute best.

No dog meat here, indeed.

Whether you want to hang out around the square with your fellow Fandomites and get drunk, or engage the many Nords who came out in force today, there's plenty socializing to do.

Or you could sit down at one of the many tables in the corners and drink. You could. It's still pretty from there.

Edward finally made it out of the inn by nightfall, largely because the music drew him out. The food made up for any troubles on his end, and he sat there nibbling on a bit of cheese of greater quality than he could have ever hoped to get back home, feeling quite pleased.

See, Atton had planned to grab a drink, watch those guys belt out whatever they were belting out, and stick to the shadows.

'Course, that's when that hot Nord with the tattoos found him again-- he couldn't complain about another round of flirting with the woman. Mostly.

He'd probably be heading back and sleeping at the inn tonight, though; he didn't really have the energy.

Kitty thought this was really cool, and she was totally glad they were here for this. She got a glass of wine and started making the rounds, either talking to the locals or looking for Fandomites to talk to.

Ichabod wasn't planning on getting drunk, thank you (especially not since he was sharing a bed with Celia), but he certainly wanted to enjoy the atmosphere, and tried to strike up conversations with the locals when possible, a drink in his hand.

Flick hadn't moved much from this morning. Look, it was comfortable and he had some good food and some warm drinks so he was going to stay where he was.

At least until he fell asleep.

Ichabod was feeling in a good mood, possibly due to a combination of a drink and the rooming arrangements, so he felt it was perhaps time to try and offer a friendly gesture towards Edward, even if the man was terribly annoying.

"Good evening," he greeted. "How goes this trip for you?"

Edward, who was still nursing a minor headache off the bar fight he'd gotten in the previous night, eyed him and wondered if that was a trick question.

"Well enough," he said. "I mean, it's a bit cold for my comfort, but at least they know how to build a good wall - if the dragons don't burn 'em down."

Dragons. Honestly.

"Ah, yes, they do seem to have a dragon problem," Ichabod agreed, pleased to have got an answer that wasn't an insult. Clearly even Edward could make an effort on occasion. "And it is a little chilly. Quite an interesting place though, not that I had ever heard about it before."

Edward wasn't making an effort as much as responding to something that didn't give him much cause or reason to be an arse, honestly. But he was simple like that.

"Haven't you heard?" he said easily. "It's another world, or so I'm told. 's two moons in this sky, for one."

Gwen had spent her entire morning decorating a house. No, she wasn't quite sure how this happened and she wasn't sure she ever wanted to do it again, but at the same time it was kind of awesome, and some random house in a place she'd never get back to had the Gwen Stamp of Approval on it, so hey.

And now, she could get a drink and hang out in a corner and watch everything. She was reaching the point in vacation where she missed her own bed and wanted to go back to somewhere that she wasn't going to make sure she left when other people did to keep her weird PTSD or whatever at bay, but for now, this was fun.

Blah blah being antisocial but not really blah.

"Yes, that is obvious," Ichabod snapped back, his plan to make peace going up in smoke. "And yes, that is of course the reason I hadn't heard about it, but I was making an attempt at polite conversation."

Kira was feeling brave, so she grabbed some of the meat that was being offered up.

Aaand she maybe grabbed a mug of wine too, shhhh.

And here Edward had been perfectly polite. Sigh, Icky.

"Congratulations," Ed said brightly, "You managed at least a quarter of a minute of it before going off at me. Nice work."

Since he'd spent most of the past two nights outside, Travis was back out again but he was wandered into the festival. The allure of the food and drink drew him in and he picked up a plate to start getting some food.

Once that was done, he found a space to stand and listen to the choir.

Nathan was healed from last night's adventures so he was out in the square, wandering around and checking everyone out. It was strange not to see anyone similar to himself around but he'd gotten used to that what with the island and all.

The Nords were huge, though.

The common room got boring after awhile so Flick came out to at least be around other people. He'd grabbed a drink and was milling around.
