From the Sea to Manastir Bay, Turkey

Taking advantage of the early morning breeze that usually blew off Dalyan beach, the gulets took off in the morning, after breakfast, towards Manastir Bay where they would anchor for lunch. The bay was a beautiful, peaceful stretch of water bordering on sandy shores and the remains of some ancient building, now half-drowned just off the shore.

Enjoy the sun, have a swim, explore your surroundings. According to legend, Cleopatra bathed here twice, so it can't be too bad.

Two days in a row and the crew on the Capricorn were starting to give Cade little "what is wrong with you" looks as he stumbled onto the ship with minutes to spare.

"Yeah, yeah, shut up," Cade muttered.

Breakfast

Breakfast aboard the gulets is an elaborate affair. Large bowls filled with a salad comprised of tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta cheese sit on the center of the spread. Spread out around it are various Turkish cheeses such as beyaz peynir and kaşar; there is menemen and bread as well as honey, jam, a local sausage known as sucuk and other local meats, and there's a nice tray full of pastries, too.

Sarah was eyeing the cheeses with some mild apprehension, same as with the meats. But the jam and the honey and even the menemen were getting her full approval.

"I could get used to this."

You know, for a week or so. She was a creature of habit and would be back to craving her normal breakfast things after that.

Maddie still didn't know what a bunch of this stuff was, but she was enjoying it. Plus she got to sit around and look out at the water, and what was there not to like about that? In fact, she may have been paying more attention to that than the food.

Ryan was getting used the the idea of having salad with breakfast. Today, she was feeling a bit more adventurous and tried some of the menemen and sausage as well. Of course, she saved some room for the pastries.

The Gulets - Sun Deck

Located on the front of each gulet, the sun deck is a perfect place to sunbathe or stargaze or just catch some air away from your roommate.

The Cetus - Sun Deck

Jeremy and his pasty exposed skin (apart from his fetching pair of Dior swim trunks) was sprawled on the sun deck, enjoying the sun. As you were supposed to.

He was probably going to doze off and get a sunburn, and it was going to be hilarious for everyone but him.

The Hydra - Sun Deck

This trip had the best built-in reason to be lazy ever, and so today found Kitty lounging on the sun deck in her bikini, and reading a book on mechanical engineering, because that's what she considered fun.

The Gulets - Dining Room and Saloon on the Main Deck

All meals aboard ship (and your sunset drinks) are served in the dining room and saloon on the main deck of your gulet.

For lunch, the salads are back on the table, but there's also plenty of pide varieties - Turkish pizza. If you'd rather like something less fast food-y, there's lamb kebap with yogurt, more menemen, and kofte.

In case it's raining or too cold to go outside, each gulet has an additional saloon below decks, perfect for chatting with friends, grabbing a drink, or reading a book.

Manastir Bay

The locals also call this beautiful bay Cleopatra's Bath because of the ruined Roman bath lying in the water southeast of the bay, even though there's no historical evidence to show she even know this place existed.

The volcanic structure of the natural hillside of the bay also confirms the existence of a crater lake, which gave warm waters to the bath house in ancient times. The pine trees in the bay cover the slopes from the seaside to the top of the hill, where you also see carob trees as well.

A long ancient wall stretches west of the bay, seemingly the defense wall of the Lycian city Lydae that is located behind the hill.
