Banyan Tree Resort, Seychelles, Sunday, 10/14 [Morning and Afternoon]

It was the last day in these islands before heading back to that significantly cooler other island. Smart people might have packed up their belongings last night, to leave as much free time as possible in the morning to enjoy the cloud-dotted but sunny sky, the 82-degree air, and the wealth of Howell-sponsored local amenities.

Or you could be like most high schoolers in this situation: sleeping in, slightly hung-over, half a week's worth of crumpled clothes, leftover local dishes in takeout cartons and unsorted souvenirs still strewn randomly across your villa floor.

The resort was here for you either way. For now.

Everyone is in hillside pool villas, where small private swimming pools, veranda with sun loungers and open-air pavilion invite you to let the world pass by while spending leisurely days taking in the glorious views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding rain forest. Thoughtful details such as the submerged 'couple seat' in the private dip pool, and an indoor sunken bathtub make up this romantic haven for two. Or kind of awkward, depending on your roommate relationship.

The Banyan Tree offers a variety of options, from Thai cuisine at Saffron to Creole at Chez Lamar to in-villa room service.

If you're going for that last option and you're in one of those villas whose floor is still a minefield of unpacked crap? You might also want to think about the generous tipping option as well.

Relax at the infinity pool! Work on your tan, get safari grit out of your teeth, order a snack from the pool bar!

Calm your mind and take in the peacefulness of your surroundings. Allow the therapists to offer you a soothing foot bath, herbal drink with refreshments and a few minutes to leave the cares of the world behind. All Banyan Tree Spa sessions are 30 minutes long. The spa is open from 9:00 AM until... your chaperones drag your overly-relaxed asses out because it's time to go back to Fandom.

The Gym at the Spa welcomes you every day from 7:30 AM until long after you have to leave anyway, and the tennis courts are always open for a good workout!

It's a climb down, but the island's beach looks inviting enough. The intensely blue water laps up against the sand and the odd protruding rock alike. The ocean is full of fish - perfect for snorkling! - and downright balmy in temperature.

There's time for one more cruise around the islands today, if you're not a slug-a-bed. Set sail in style in the Banyan Lagoon I, a 47-foot twin-hulled catamaran, the epitome of Seychelles cruising. Enjoy breath taking views as catamaran staff, an on-deck skipper and a personal host cater to your every whim.

If you're not drawn to the water today, you can take one more walk through the 15 acre spice gardens on the resort property.

Surely there's some corner of your suitcase you haven't crammed full of hotel towels, right? Take one more drive into Victoria’s Selwyn Clark Market, which offers local attractions and of course the best shopping spots. With a local guide at hand you will have all the inside information on the best spots and the interesting stories that make them unique. Once the shopping is done, enjoy the amazing coastal ride back to the hotel.

I want an infinity pool. I promise to take better care of it than the ring-set inflatable pool currently piled in wet shreds in our back yard.

It'd been a nice week. Nice, peaceful... Kaidan wished he'd enjoyed it more than he had. And the stupid thing was, a year ago he might have killed for leave like this.

Right now it just didn't feel like it mattered.

Still, he made his way down to the beach this morning, going for a quick jog before settling, perched on one of the rocks, staring into the surf.

"Get me souvenirs!" George had insisted over the phone.

Mitchell... might have been putting that mission off for a while.

But there was only so long he could keep that up, and with the end of the vacation dawning on the horizon (he was torn between missing the heat and not being terribly fond of the sun) he reluctantly hopped aboard the van.

"Souvenirs," he muttered.

Well, Peter was finally out of his villa. That was something.

Unfortunately, what he was doing now was pacing around the pool furiously talking to people on the phone - the sad consequence of Peter Wiggin attempting to take 'one quick dip in the pool just this once' before getting interrupted by a minor crisis.

Did he realize how hard that made it to find him? Because Natalie needed to, in order to return his translations. Sure, she could've waited until Fandom – except for how she wasn't going to Fandom with the rest.

So, she was mildly annoyed that he wasn't in his villa for once, though finding him after she'd made her way to the pool proved easy. Pacing and talking were not hard to spot.

"Peter."

Oh, this was where Karolina was going to be until the very last moment. Just relaxing in the sun, lounging by the pool.

She was not entirely sure she wasn't going to cry over having to leave, to be honest.

Peter held up one hand to her. Then one finger. One more minute.

"Yes," he said, "Yes-- well, just execute the plan we just talked about-- no, I'm not going to argue the details again, you'll find when you review it that it is sound--"

"You look content," Liara observed.

She was still not certain how she felt about human bathing suits.

Natalie put on her patient face. It looked mostly impassive.

It was really not going to last for long, though. Seeing as she didn't actually require all of his attention for the simple task of handing back a memory stick.

"Call me back in half an hour after you've actually reviewed it," Peter said. "Then we'll talk about it."

He ended the call without waiting for a response. "Natalie," he said, sounding relaxed. "How can I help you?"

They were awesome, Liara. Though Karolina's opinion might have been tied to how strongly they were associated with sunshine in her mind.

"I am," she replied with a small smile. Only a little awkward, considering the last time they'd talked. "But sad that we have to leave soon."

Well, Liara couldn't stop tugging on the string over her shoulder. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it was... well. It took some getting used to.

"It has been a relaxing week," she allowed. "Is this climate more like what you are used to?"

Natalie's expression didn't change, though she reached into her pocket before holding the memory stick out for him. "I'm just here to drop this off."

You know, before she got bitched at for taking documents to Seattle.

"Right, right," Peter said, taking it from her. He turned the memory stick over in his hands. "Thanks. This is going to come in handy once I can finally get back to my regular work."

He'd had to temporarily take down his workload for this trip. Sigh.
