Rio was gifting you one more full day of heat and sun before tomorrow's departure back to Fandom, so if you wanted to go out and enjoy it, it was now or never!

The pavements sizzled, the sand sizzled, the waiters sizzled, but they were all built sizzle-proof (except for the monkeys). Presumably, the flea market also sizzled, but no one really wanted to think about it.

The deluxe beach view rooms have stunning views of the world-famous Copacabana Beach. The adults' rooms even feature Juliet-style balconies! There hadn't been much change in room 334 since the ill fated date the other night. They'd barely talked to each other and Sam had taken to sleeping in the other bed just to give them both space.

Even while he was lightly dozing, he could still feel the tension in the room and decided he didn't really like Brazil. There was one more day and he was in no hurry to see anything but the backs of his eyelids.

Richie hadn't figured out his plans for the day yet. What he had figured out was that he needed a giant breakfast buffet to start things off. He'd have plenty of time to plan out the rest of the day while he was eating all the things, right?

Dave figured he might as well take advantage of the spa and get a shoulder massage. After a while he even stopped wincing every time the masseuse did anything.

His shoulder was actually doing a lot better already, but it was more the thought of somebody hitting it repeatedly that made him wince.

Dave wasn't a fighter, no.

Copacabana Palace - Pool

The magnificent swimming pool at the Copacabana Palace has long drawn stars and royalty alike to sunbathe, swim and socialize. Everyone from Lex Luthor to Ender Wiggin has been seen soaking up the sun around the Copacabana pool, which is open 24 hours a day, and features no monkeys.

Lex had used the beach for most of his sunning and swimming needs this week but who was he to make a lie of the OCD? decided to at least check out the pool before they left.

So there he was, relaxing and catching some warmth before tomorrow's return to colder weather.

Steps away from the hotel is one of the most famous beaches in the world where it might not be relaxing to lay out and catch the sun's rays, but it will definitely never be boring.

One more run on the beach and some last-minute lounging seemed to be the plan for Bruce's day. He decided that aside from the monkeys, Brazil had been good to him. He might as well take a few final hours to relax here since the second half of the semester was basically going to be a sprint for him.

So until that had to start, it was time to recharge in the sun.

After nothing disastrous happening last night when he went to the beach, Luke decided to try it again in the daytime. He didn't have any trouble tanning even without laying out in the sun, but he could lay out and help his own natural tanning talents along, sure.

Somehow, against all odds and sense of reason, Hercules had managed to organize a game of beach volleyball. Wherein he was a the only male between both teams.

And again, Hercules was coated in tanning oil and wearing naught but a speedo. Today's tasteful tiny swimsuit was shiny and silver.

So maybe 'tasteful' was the wrong word.

After breakfast and a trip to the flea market, Richie headed back to the beach. He'd managed to stay relatively unburnt yesterday and there were more pretty ladies in bikinis to ogle.

Cara had not been looking for souvenirs, let's get that straight from the start. It was simply that she had been wandering past one of the leatherwork stalls when a set of small sheaths that looked like they would suit Kahlan's daggers caught her eye.

That there had been a...disagreement about the quality of the goods on closer inspection was not her fault. It was not her fault that they wouldn't stand up to the rigours of battle, nor was it her fault that she could recognise less than stellar leatherwork as such, and she'd been trying to help the man by pointing this out.

The resultant (very loud) argument hadn't escalated to violence, but it did undo a great deal of the good her earlier massage had done her.

There was no way Hanna was leaving this place without doing a little shopping. She wandered the market, looking for souvenirs to take home to her mom and her friends at home.

She may have been eying some jewelry for herself as well....that she would even pay for.

Cassidy had been enjoying herself on this trip, so when she heard about the party that was going on in the market, she went immediately to explore. Perhaps she would find some special souvenirs to take back to Fandom and back home.

She would also love a shopping partner if she found any one from Fandom down here.

Ben was looking for super ugly vases local art to take back to Fandom, but he kept getting distracted by the music and the food and the general feel of the market.

The busy-ness reminded him of Coruscant, even if everyone was mostly human-looking.

Seifer spent his morning at the beach, getting in his usual surfing and early morning sun, and then he headed for the market. The bus ride there had been interesting, if someone death-defying, and the market itself was pretty damn awesome.

Stacey had not done nearly enough shopping on this trip, so she jumped at the chance to get some things for her mom and dad and friends back home, and herself, of course. Plus doing things like that helped distract her from the fact that she hadn't heard from Miguel since Thursday.

Know what else might distract her? Henna tattoos. They just seemed so exotic.

The Feira São Sebastião Quinze de Novembro flea market is a pleasant way to spend a few hours amid locals and browse genuine antiques, art-deco items and secondhand bargains.

Today's music choice: the band my dad raised me on. Vur de Kerk op 't Plein is making me rock my socks off, De Zwarte Plak still makes me cry (it's such a gorgeous song, especially when you know the story behind it), and half of Dutchland still can't understand the dialect they're singing in.

(Also huh, I didn't realise the Opposites had made a rap song sampling from this band... that's kind of gorgeous.)
