Getting out into Coruscant [Friday afternoon into Saturday afternoon]

Anakin pointed out of one of the vaulted Temple windows towards the busy cityscape in front of them.

"And that is Coruscant. Clubs, restaurants, shopping, incredibly egotistical politicians, useless bureaucrats...it's all out there." He pointed to the nearest public transport pickup location. "Don't go lower than the mid-levels of Coruscant unless you're looking to disappear permanently," he warned. "There are a trillion beings on this planet, and it has a thriving underworld who are as ruthless as any you'll ever come across."

"It's pretty cool, huh?" Anakin said, grinning. "Some things are universal."

"It is, and they are," Sam grinned back.

Anakin clinked his glass against Sam's. "Welcome to Coruscant," he said.

"Thanks for bringing us," Sam said, sipping at her drink. "It's been an amazing trip."

"I'm glad," Anakin said, looking pleased. "A chance to see another world--I didn't think you guys would want me to pass it up."

"Good choice. I've seen a lot of other worlds, but none quite like this."

"There's nothing in the universe like Coruscant," Anakin replied. "I'm sure of it."

"I believe you," Sam said. "So, any plans for the rest of the weekend?"

"I need to pick up some cookies tomorrow, but other than that, I've done all I needed to while I was here." He winked. "Assuming Bel doesn't end up in prison tonight or something."

Sam snickered. "There's always hope, right?"

"Yeah, but there would be paperwork if I forgot to bring him back to school, I'll bet."

"Oh yeah. Paperwork is a constant."

"Duct tape, dry ice and paperwork," Anakin said, ticking them off on his fingers. "I could live without the paperwork."

"Me too. But you also forgot death and taxes." Yep, that was Sam, the eternal optimist.

"There is no death, there is the Force," Anakin recited, rolling his eyes a little. "We're taught that life continues to be connected."

"Yes, but there's still the death of one form, right?" Sam was still trying to get a handle on this Force stuff.

"Of the physical body, yes," Anakin said, nodding. "But we're taught that it's the part inside that continues on, that joins the Force."

He smiled softly. "'Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter,'" he recited. "It's a hard idea to wrap your head around, though." He took a drink from his glass. "I'm not sure I'm there yet."

"Some of us are taught that that part, the soul, goes on to Heaven. Others believe that you ascend to another state of being." Sam took several swallows of her drink, then coughed. "No, it's not an easy concept."

"And entirely too deep for this little alcohol," Anakin replied. He looked around the room and smiled. "Want me to tell you about some of the species in here?"

"Please?" Sam glanced around.

Anakin nodded his head. "The green guy with the weird nose? That's a Rodian. The short one he's talking to who's all covered with fur is a Bothan and the woman who should frankly be wearing more clothing is the pudgiest Twi'lek I've ever seen."

"So, what can you tell me about their different planets? Anything?"

Anakin grinned. "As luck would have it, I've been to all three. Rodia's in the Mid Rim and spits out some of the dumbest bounty hunters in the galaxy, but I didn't say that. Bothawui is in the same region of space and is known for their amazing ability to slice their way into almost any computer network. As you can imagine, this doesn't make them hugely popular. It normally stays pretty neutral in any huge galactic argument, which also doesn't make them hugely popular. And Twi'leks are from Ryloth, out in the Outer Rim way past Corellia. It's almost as hot as Tatooine there, which means it's pretty close to unbearable." He frowned. "Twi'leks are slave traffickers."

Sam blinked and resisted the urge to stare at Anakin. "And they all hang out in the same bar without there being a problem?"

Anakin shrugged. "At this level of Coruscant? Sure. Go down a few thousand feet and it gets a little...sketchy. For all I know, those three work for their various sectors' Senators and have never sliced a computer, killed someone for money or owned a slave in their lives."

He pressed his lips together. "Though that's not incredibly likely."
