Manta Resort, Zanzibar [Thursday Evening]

We can stop telling you not to get eaten! Now we move onto telling you not to drown! Welcome to the Manta Resort, located on Pemba Island in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The resort was designed to conserve the natural beauty of Pemba Island, including the waters that surround it.

With everyone hopefully well-settled, it was time to wind down for the day, relax, enjoy some food, and admire the fishies. There's so many fishies to look at, y'all.

UNDERWATER ROOMS

Anchored in an ocean floor anomaly we call the blue hole, the floating underwater rooms top almost anything. Encapsulated within a turquoise blue bubble, watching shoals of reef fish swim by – sometimes in three or four layers of different species--this is a truly heart-stopping experience. The floating structures provides three levels: above the water clad in local hardwood is a lounge, bed and bathrooms underwater, and a stargazing, sun tanning bed on the roof.

THERE ARE FISH RIGHT. THERE. Ahem. Perhaps we're a little excited about these bedrooms, but they're underwater and there are fish riiiiight there.

There's also seats to stare out at the water or a sunbed to get gorgeously tanned--or sunburned--just in time to go back to cold, dreary Maryland in a few days.

Beach

If you want to look at the water and not be gently rocking on your personal hut-sized island, here's the place to do it. Plus there's a bar.

Whether it's enjoying snacks on the elevated terrace or drinks in the lounge, there's incredibly good food and drinks for you to try for the next few days.

Sunset Cruise

An Ngalawa is the traditional sailing vessel used by fishermen on the island. Leaving from the beach at around 5:00 pm, you will cruise along the shoreline over the reefs enjoying the sunset, the thrill of the sail and bottle of bubbly.

Visit Zanzibar Island

It's a 45 minute ferry boat to the next island over, and there's more to explore there, too!

Dwight had already decided that for this second half of the trip he was going to treat it more like the restful vacation he desperately needed. And so after watching a breath-taking sunset, he was down in the room, laying on his back, watching the various fishes swimming by. Relaxing and lounging around doing nothing was not his strong suite but this... this he could easily get used to!

Even though staying at the resort was nice, Liz decided to venture out that evening and go on the sunset cruise and take as many photos as she could of the sunset.

It was a bit of a trip, but Jon kind of wanted to see a bit more land, at least for a while.

When they got there, he found his way to 6 Degrees South, which promised Afro-Jazz and delivered that and some really good spiced mango cocktails.

...He might have to cut himself off at some point if he wanted to make it back.
