HOTEL

Sure, that train ride is long. But now you get to relax and enjoy the comforts of Shosuke no Yado Takinoyu, a ryokan (hot spring) hotel with intimidating views of Fushimigataki Fall. A perfect place for a rest.

Rooms

Some of you get Japanese-style rooms with tatami, some of you more Western-style rooms, and as per usual, twin or double beds depending on what's funniest.

And then there's that one room with just tatami and one double bed.

Private hot spring hot tubs

Why leave the hotel to go to a hot spring when you can just rent one of the hotel's own hot spring baths in privacy? With a perfect view of the waterfall, you're sure to get some relaxation.

Public hot spring

Or get some friends together and come hang out in some of the comfortably heated hot spring pools this complex has. Also with a good view of the river and the waterfalls.

Restaurant

The hotel's small restaurant serves modern Japanese fare: sushi, ramen and soba, but also hot pot with thinly sliced beef, mushrooms, and vegetables.

At Unoya restaurant, they specialise in katsudon, a Japanese egg dish where they top an omelette with meat. Sounds good!

Tsuru Itsutsu

Tsuru Itsutsu used to be a large, palatial estate. Now the building is home to a restaurant, serving cod, peppered herring and various noodle dishes in authentic Hongo serviceware. It specializes in the Kitakata style of ramen, which is based on soy and uses fish cakes and char siu pork.

Ishimotoya

Ishimotoya isn't just any liquor shop - it's the best place to get locally made sake from the various breweries around the city. Move on from here to the Matsumotoya not far away and also enjoy their wide selection of cilindrical jellies. Yes.

Now this was better suited to Silver's idea of a vacation. He had been tempted to rent one of the private pools since he hated people seeing what remained of his leg, but he felt a little silly about going to the trouble.

Instead he did a quick removal of his false leg at the public spring before getting into the water. He was getting pretty good at being quick like that.
