Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark [Tuesday Daytime]

Hope you got to tick everything off on your to-do list at Legoland, everyone, because after a ~~handwavey~~ breakfast it's off to your next destination! And yes, for the record, it's still chilly and sort of overcast at 13C/55F today.

Your bags will be taken over the hotel after you've been dropped off at the front of Tivoli, the second oldest amusement park that is still in operation. It opened in 1843, and is best known for its giant wooden roller coaster, the Rutschebanen, which was built in 1914. In addition to rides, there is also a beautiful garden to wander through.

Go on a ride! Go on ten! Or wander through the gardens. If you're looking to be spooked, there's plenty of Halloween-themed fun (and food!) to find.

There's amazing shopping in Tivoli, and about a million food options.

The Absalon Hotel is within walking distance of Tivoli, located right in the heart of Copenhagen.

The good news: no bunkbeds! Yay! Students are checked into Original Rooms, chaperones in Superior Rooms. Expect them to rub in how much nicer theirs sound.

You're not going to eat in a hotel when there's all of Copenhagen to explore. Out, out, out.

Okay, okay, there's wine, beer, and snacks- all moddable- at the hotel bar, but if you're looking for a proper meal, you won't find it here. Not when there's so many excellent restaurants within walking distance.

We can't make you stay inside an amusement park, after all! Located in Veterbro, Absalon Hotel is only 200 meters from Copenhagen Central Train Station and the Metro, and within easy walking distance of ‘Strøget’, the world’s longest walking street. Vesterbro, or Copenhagen V, is one of the city’s most lively and vibrant areas, with many restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Explore the Meatpacking District, one of the few authentic meatpacking districts, where skilled butchers worked for generations in the white, grey and brown buildings. A large open area, it’s well-known for its many restaurants with a high gastronomic standard, nightclubs, and small galleries. Vesterbro also boasts its own charming foodie street, Værnedamsvej– a gourmet’s paradise with artisan food shops, bars, restaurants and cafés.

The next week at work is gonna kill me. I'm calling it now.

Astrid absolutely loved the aesthetic of this place, and though she definitely tried a few of the rides for the novelty of it all, she was mostly wandering around, soaking up the sites, and finding spots to sit for a bit while she took what she saw and put it into the pages of her sketchbook. The Music Carousel was probably where she wound up sitting the most, though, feeling like she could watch it and its charming details for the better part of a day...if it weren't for all the other things she was also interested in taking in.

Eleanor did not go on the roller coaster known as The Demon. But known as a coaster that subjected its riders to 4G's of force, Eleanor knew it was a matter of time until she witnessed someone puking on the ride.

It took two hours but the wait was worth it.

"Best. Fucking. Trip. Ever."

After not really doing any kind of chaperoning at all in Legoland, Barry decided to up his game by doing something worthwhile in Tivoli.

Which involved pulling out his tablet and monitoring any kind of atmospheric conditions and evaluating any potential food poisoning that might occur at the Food Garden.

Nothing seemed too concerning other than the looks he got from the Barista from ordering a decaf latte with soy milk.

Look, not everyone was into PSL, okay?

Nina's interest in plants was almost entirely cosmetic and this place catered to that in spades as she drifted blissfully through the gardens, lost in a romantic fantasy or five as she wandered where she willed.

She took a few pictures but, honestly, not all that many since she preferred to spend the time instead just reveling in the sheer romanticism of it all...

Yes, yes, Tahani would eventually go back to the amusement park, but first she needed some hand-made gloves.

The last hotel had been extremely traumatic and she needed some retail therapy!

"You look like you're having a good time," Anakin said, grinning as he walked closer.

Shuri was on this roller coaster for the science because the actual experience was rattling her teeth in her head just a bit. But the chance to ride on something that was still working a hundred years after being built was not to be missed!

"I am," she with a dreamy sort of sigh before she turned a brilliant smile upon Bus Dean. "Isn't it all just so beautiful????????????"

"It is," Anakin said, smiling. "It's a little cold for me, though."

"It's a touch chilly," Nina conceded.

That had, in fact, been part of one of her daydreams. A handsome, gentlemanly lad (exactly what he looked like depended on the moment, but he was always, always handsome) lending her his sweater to keep her warm... ah, bliss...

"If this is cold, though, you must hate our winters on the island?????????"

"I do," Anakin admitted with a little grimace. "And my wife is from New England. She finds snow and cute scarves and hats charming."

Anakin, by the tone, clearly did not.

Alas, for Nina agreed with Miss Rory on this matter!

"Chin up," she said encouragingly. "After all, like, it's not winter yet!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Oh, Astrid!" Elli beamed when she found the other girl. "Bubble tea?"

She had an extra!

"Next vacation will be someplace warm," Anakin declared. "But no deserts."

Anakin was very picky.

"It'll be summer in Australia while it's winter for us," Nina suggested brightly. "And there's, like, plenty to do there!!!!!!!!!!!"

She didn't know if her suggestion would have any impact but, like, why not make one?

How convenient!

"Hey, Elli," Astrid looked up from her sketches with a faint smile, tucking her hair behind one of her ears. "Sure. Thanks. I mean, if you don't mind..."

Maybe she'd intended the extra for someone else? But she wouldn't mind being the unintended recipient, either.

Shhh!

"I don't mind at all," Elli said, holding out both options. "I asked for strawberry but they made a raspberry one by accident and then gave it to me as well so it wouldn't go to waste. Which would you like?"
