Necker Island, Sunday Afternoon/Evening

The advantages of portal travel were on clear display this trip: other visitors to Necker Island would have had to take a small ship to the island, but the portal dropped them off right in the lobby of the Great Hall. The scent of coconut was in the air, there were cocktails available, and the water crashed neatly against the beach.

There were only a couple of other guests on the island (including a tall man who liked to wear his baseball cap backwards - you know, a dad). It was a small place, and the school had rented almost all of it.

Welcome to paradise.

The Great House is the hub of all things Necker Island. Not only does it contain many gorgeous open bedrooms, outfitted with enormous terraces, but the house's perch on the island's highest points also grants it some incredibly scenic lounging possibilities. In fact, up on the roof, you'll find a jacuzzi big enough for four at a time.

Don't fight over it.

Every private room has a double or twin beds, depending on ~~what's suitable and/or funny~~ which one you're assigned. Every room comes with a private en-suite bathroom and a beautiful view of the beach on either side of the island.

The Great House has a spacious dining room, where private chefs serve different takes on local cuisine every evening. There's seating area outside as well, and the woman behind the bar will make you any number of cocktails if you ask nicely.

The Great House comes with a wrap-around terrace that supports hammocks and cosy sofas. There are board games and even chess sets available - and a fully-stocked bar.

In the center of the Great House, you'll find the deck, which provides a stunning scenic view of the surrounding area, more seating, a pool table and a piano. Also, champagne. And a lot of it. Or would you prefer drinking a welcome cocktail in a coconut? (Nonalcoholic versions available.)

And if you take the stairs up, you'll find a four-person jacuzzi. Nice!

Just outside the house sits an enormous infinity pool, which remains warm even in the nighttime hours. Jump in, give it a try! There'll be plenty more swimming to do elsewhere for the rest of the week, but there's no place like home.

It's dark out, and most of the facilities are closed. Still, there's a few things to do for the enterprising guest.

Not far from the Great House, you'll find quiet Turtle Beach, surrounded by palm trees. There's not a lot going on there, but the quiet may be nice.

A short walk away, you'll find the Main Beach, where all the sports equipment is and you can grab a comfy chair and some lights - candles also available - to watch the surf.

Or take a trip around the island. It's big and has plenty to see - just bring a flashlight.

Maybe you'll even spot a lemur!

First day, so let me know down here if I messed anything up in the room assignments!

It was far too hot, especially if you were wearing a corset and a proper dress, and Lucille had yet to discover air conditioning. At least she had made sure to bring her umbrella. She had also learnt that there was such a thing as sun screen and she was now trying to apply it without staining her dress.

Well. Nathan really hadn't been expecting to end up assigned to the fancy room (comparatively, as it was his understanding that all of the suites here were some manner of fancy), but he most certainly wasn't complaining.

Especially when he went exploring and discovered the hot tub.

"... I might never leave."

Apparently, he'd won the vacation jackpot.

"Oooh my god."

Sparkle had discovered the view.

"Ooooooohmygod."

He was kind of glued to it.

"Ohmygod."

It was possible he was going to just stay fixated here for, like, a few days. That was what room service was for, right?

Peridot was going to check out the pool.

Peridot was sitting completely submerged at the bottom of it, her arms crossed in front of her chest, unimpressed.

This was meant to be fun? What was wrong with humans?

"Holy shit," Dante commented.

He flung his bag onto the giant bed and eyed the gorgeous scenery and--

"Do we have a minibar?"

Priorities.

Whereas if you were a Rivaini well sick of cold and snow, and your idea of proper clothing was something very close to only the corset, it was brilliant weather.

This was clearly going to end well.

At least Lucille was used to half-dressed people by now ~~even if she tried not to look down Isabela's cleavage~~. Without turning to look at her new room mate she said:

"So, we are to share this room."

~~But it was marvellous cleavage!~~

Isabela flung herself happily onto the nearest bed. "I'm sure we an have some great girly fun."

Isabela, no.

~~It was!~~

"You do?"

Lucille sounded doubtful, even if she probably wasn't thinking about the same kind of girly fun that Isabela was.

Which was a tremendous shame, though likely safer for all involved, considering.

"Oh, yes," Isabela assured her. "There's so many ways to pass the time, we're sure to end up flat on our backs."

Lucille frowned a little. Flat on their backs?

"Well, I'm not going to spend the holiday sleeping. There are plenty of things to do here I'm sure."

Lucille and Isabela were probably thinking of different things.

"Although the sun is a little harsh." She added more sunscreen.

Well, ideally they wouldn't both be on their backs at the same time, and there were plenty of other positions too!

"I'm sure we can agree on that much," Just not the definition of things and do.

"You do strike me as someone who prefers it indoors."

". . . oh."

Merrill had been all but tiptoeing everywhere since they'd arrived, as if she was afraid to even touch the floor here.

Which she was. She was accustomed to Fandom by now, and to the general idea of these school trips, but there was still no way she could be in a strange new place full of this kind of luxury and not have all her instincts screaming you shouldn't be here, someone will get angry.

So by the time she got up to the room and very gingerly put down her tiny bag in a corner to go stand out on the terrace and take in the view, that was really all she could say.

"I just prefer to stay out of the sun," Lucille replied. "I have nothing against beaches."

Just to make sure Isabela didn't think she wasn't adventurous, although using that word very differently from Isabela.

Guess what Cosette was going to do? Grab a flashlight and go explore and hope to spot a lemur, that's what.

Lemurs or not, she was going to cover as much ground as she could before she got too tired to keep going. Oooh, and maybe tomorrow she'd try some surfing.
