Spring Break, Cyseal, Friday Evening

For once, it was a quiet evening in Cyseal. Nothing terrible happened. Nothing attacked.

Obviously, it was the best possible time for a fireworks show, right?

The mages that had travelled all the way over here to clear the lava field certainly thought so.

King Crab Tavern

This large inn is a beautiful construction of ornate brickwork, with flowers hanging off of every available surface on the outside.

King Crab Tavern - Rooms

The rooms are upstairs, modestly outfitted but spacious. There is a double bed or set of twin beds in each room, a bath with a privacy screen, a wardrobe (with time-and-place appropriate clothing included) and a desk. There are plenty of candles, and beautiful paintings hang off the walls.

King Crab Tavern - Common Room

Within, large red curtains separate the various booths and tables from the rest of the inn; while they are usually open, they may be closed if privacy is wished for. To the left, there is a large bar which covers the entire L-shaped curve of the back wall. There is the constant, comforting rumble of people chattering; the decor, the fireplace (with bear fur rug) and the candles speak of an intrinsic welcoming warmth. A grey tomcat wanders around the floor, sweet and clever.

The bar does not just serve drinks (though in Cyseal, they are not particularly interested in age limits), but it also serves food for the guests staying at the King Crab. At this time in the evening, you can buy drinks, various dinner dishes composed of vegetables with beef or fish, mashed potatoes, Rivellon fries, pumpkin and cheeses.

Cyseal - Docks - FIREWORKS

Yes, it's been a long day's work for the mages that came down here to best the lava. But are they lying down for a long sleep? Of course not.

Instead, several of them have gathered near the docks, where they send many pulses of light into the air: magic missiles, ice and fire twine and blossom in the sky without sound.

At least one showoff includes a bird made of electricity and some fog in the shape of a large cat, just because he can get away with it.

They keep themselves and the crowd entertained until midnight.

Cyseal - Walk the Lava Fields

Most of the lava has been tamed, but there are still deep pools of it here and there, to the north.

Some townsfolk have gone out to light torches and map out a path. They are quiet, but happy to let others join them; they weave their way through the field with nothing but the glow of the lava and their torches to light the way-- and the stars spread out above.

The musicians are back in the theater grounds tonight! Their songs are slightly more mournful, and less bawdy, though at least three times, they bust out with a showstopper that anyone can dance to.

Dante had finally gotten enough booze in him to qualify as somewhat drunk, so staggering over to the docks to stare up at the pretty lights seemed like a fantastic idea.

He flopped down on the ground and just watched.

"This is both unsettling and lovely," Cassandra whispered to herself. She barely even realized she was speaking out loud.

But she did, eventually, realize, shut her mouth, and continue down the path between the lava with her jaw set.

(She was not going anywhere near all the magic on the docks. Not a chance.)

Fireworks! One of Ada's most favorite things in the world, even if these were by magic and not the flash and bang of the ones from home.

She be sitting here, enraptured, for hours.

Skaar was restful, sitting by the edge of a pool that he made sure was nice and warm. He even had his feet in it. It probably would have been a quaint sight, if it wasn't a barbarian monster man with his feet dipped in a pool of water instead of lava.

Took Ada a moment or two to process that she had been waved at, and then who had done it, and then she managed to tear her eyes off the sky long enough to pick her way through the other spectators and then sit down next to Dante. She hated being this close to the water; it made her skin itch and gave her a headache, but the desire for fireworks and good company won out over bodily discomfort.

Though she was gonna be quiet company, at least for a bit, while she soaked in all the pretty lights and colors.

Dante wasn't exactly operating on his usual speeds anyway, so he was happy to leave it that way.

He sat back, balancing himself on his lower arms, his head tilted up.

Oh, fireworks. They were beautiful, and Lucille had never seen anything like these ones. She stood on by herself, wrapped in a shawl to warm her as the night grew colder, and wished her brother was here with her.

Kathy had been lazy all day, but there was no way she'd miss out on viewing a fireworks show like this. She stared up at the sky, enraptured and at peace.

Kathy wasn't entirely sure how it happened--she was blaming getting too close to the front of the audience and too-obviously singing along--but at some point in the night she ended up on stage. After a few minutes of panicked blinking at the crowd, she leaned over to steal someone's wine, tossed it back with abandon, and then launched into a song.

Hey, their vacation was almost over. If she couldn't be an idiot now, when could she?

You know what was not going to help Dante get any less drunk? Having Kathy fling herself down on the ground next to him and pass over a bottle of liquor without even saying hello, eyes fixed on the sky.

Oh, this was lovely! And illusion was the one thing Bob could still do on his own. After a bit of pleading, he'd gotten himself dropped off by the mages, and was cheerfully helping out.

His "fire" and "sparks" might not reach as high as some of the others, but he could absolutely get into a show-off competition with that one mage.

After dropping Bob off (and keeping a close eye on him, just in case), Hannibal retreated to a good vantage point. If he'd brought an oilcloth and blanket to set down against the damp sand, that was just common sense, wasn't it?

The fireworks were rather lovely.

Seemed like common sense to Jono, at least. He wouldn't mind somewhere comfortable to set himself down, considering the workout he'd gotten yesterday. And a few other minor aches from last week that hadn't completely faded just yet.
