Aboard the Pacific Princess, Thursday, February 26, 1978

If anyone was awake at sunrise (why? why would you do that to yourself?) they would have been able to watch as the ship pulled in to dock in Mazatlan. Everyone who woke up at a sensible hour would find themselves with plenty to do, as long as they made it back to the ship by sunset, around 5pm. It was a beautiful, warm, and sunny day for exploring, and that certainly couldn't be said about the weather back home. It was important to embrace those small victories, right?

Everyone will find their berths on the Aloha Deck, with outside twin rooms (that have either twin beds or a double for your moddable needs) that provide a view of the ocean as it goes past. (Keep the NSFW in private journals, please!)

Explore the various buffets around the ship! Eat nothing but dessert if you want! No one's gonna judge. Much.

Maybe you're in the mood for a swim on the Lido Deck? Of course you are. There's another pool further aft, if you prefer it.

Enjoy the view or play a game of shuffleboard! Does anyone under 80 know how to play shuffleboard?

Admire the Moorish and Gothic architecture at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, then head across the way to the popular Plaza Revolución with its charming gazebo and street vendors.

The Italian-style theatre, a national landmark loving restored to its 19th-century splendor, is home to a concert hall, galleries, an art school and a highly regarded conservatory of music and dance.

The tourist zone, known as Zona Dorado (Golden Zone) boasts numerous four and five star hotels with private beaches, shops and restaurants, and palm-lined beaches.

Stone Island is less crowded and not as developed as the mainland, a haven of sunshine and ocean, with glistening sand, crashing waves, and rustling palm trees and plentiful coconuts.

Founded in 1900 by three German immigrants, Pacifico Brewery produces one of Mexico's finest premium brews.

High-flying divers perform acrobatic and dangerous plunges into rocky surf from a 59-foot high ledge.

In the lush Sierra Madre foothills, the twin colonial towns are reminiscent of yesteryear as artisans craft furniture and pottery, and cobblestones and colorful red roof tiles dot the streets.

Nothing really appealed today, out of what was available on the mainland-- but Atton had no interest in being alone with his thoughts today, either. Wandering brought him to the Golden Zone, which was as full of life as the boardwalk had been yesterday.

That about suited him fine.

He ambled into and out of shops, and eventually settled down at a restaurant for lunch, where he began a conversation with some random girl who was sitting nearby. Talking to a complete stranger with no expectations was about his speed, today.

Edward had gotten his fill of exercise yesterday. Today, he was far more interested in the townsfolk. Artisans selling their wares was familiar-- a bit like the market they always went to to sell meat and wool.

He struck up a few conversations with the salesmen there, mentally rating their knack for the trade.

The religion of the locals was not her own, but Cassandra could appreciate displays of piety of any kind. She wandered the halls of the Cathedral, studying artifacts as she went.

There was something about the atmosphere that made her feel closer to the Maker.

She could not join the local faithful in their prayer, for their God was not hers. But she caught herself murmuring to herself at more than one occasion, little snippets of the Chant to calm her spirit. "From these emerald waters doth life begin anew. Come to me, child, and I shall embrace you..."

Cosette actually was up before sunrise, just so she could watch it from the sun deck; getting to watch the ship arrive in Mazatlan was just a bonus.

Once she was there, she stayed for a while . . . because her muscles were definitely feeling the aftermath of climbing trees yesterday. She'd be quite happy to keep movement to a minimum at least for an hour or two.

Eventually, Cosette managed to peel herself away from the ship's railing and head offshore, but something much more low-key suited her best today, and this place was perfect; she even managed to find herself some new piano sheet music.

Scott wasn't up in time to watch the sun rise, no, but he was up reasonably early. "Hey," he grinned shyly as he spotted Cosette. "How's your trip going so far?"

Isabelle's heritage compelled her to be drawn to cathedrals and other places of worship, if only to wander through them and look for signs of Shadowhunter presence.

She wasn't quite sure what her own religious and spiritual situation was nowadays. But she felt at home here, all the same.

Mara found herself sitting in on a jarabe dance class and left with a beautiful skirt and a new set of steps under her belt.

Four was Dauntless, so even though he was afraid of heights, he was completely impressed by the divers' fearlessness.

Anakin flopped down the beach with a blanket and a contented sigh.

Mmmm. Vacation was the best.

Flick's religious views were a bit messy and complicated but that didn't stop him from tagging along on this trip to check out the architecture and the street vendors.
