Quito, Ecuador, Monday, October 14, 2019 [evening]

After all of that walking, bet that jacuzzi is looking pretty good tonight, huh, Fandom?

The buffet at the Luxemburgo Cafe tonight is Canadian Thanksgiving ala Ecuador so have fun modding whatever that looks like and all of the clubs in Quito are calling your name. Tomorrow we're up early to head to our cruise ship and the Galapagos Islands, but for tonight, we party!

Or hide in the jacuzzi. Whichever.

Hotel Pool

[personal profile] legionqueen 2019-10-14 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you know that many large cats enjoy swimming?

If you didn't, you did now, with the way Camden was splashing around in the pool.

Juillenne was, for the moment, lounging by the poolside with a book as she kept an eye on her familiar.

The summer had kind of sucked for poor Lexi, who had been stuck indoors for most of it, and after that one week where water turned people into monsters Kitty had refused to put her baby in a pool. But on vacation it should be okay, right?

"...We'll wait our turn," Kitty decided, sitting her down on a chair instead.

Jules glanced up from her book as Kitty walked in with Lexi.

"Cam's- well, no, she's not harmless," Jules admitted. "But she wouldn't do anything to endanger a baby."

"No, it's okay," Kitty said, "she tries to pull tails all the time."

She'd never been allowed, which was probably why she still kept trying to do it.

Juillenne considered that. Camden... probably would endure having her tail pulled, although she'd absolutely sulk about it.

But- it would set a terrible precedent for Lexi, who might take from this that tail-pulling was an okay thing to do.

"Want me to tell her to get out, then?" she asked. "I think she's had the pool to herself long enough." Strangely, the other guests had cleared out rather rapidly after their arrival.

"Nah, you're fine. I think she's enjoying watching, actually."

Sure enough, Lexi did not care about either one of them, because there was a big swimming cat and she had priorities.

“If you’re sure,” Jules said with a shrug.

A beat, and then: “You’re one of the teachers, right?” She figured she must be from Fandom, given the reaction to Cam was pretty low-key.

"Computer Science," she confirmed, taking a seat behind Lexi in case this was when she finally motivated herself to take her first steps towards a cat. "And you have to be a student."

Jules nodded in response to Kitty’s question “Computers are Way out of my depth,” she continued. “We don’t have anything like them where i’m from.”

"Wolf Spring," Jules supplied. "On the island of Fennbirn." She... wasn't expecting Kitty to have the slightest clue where that was or what that meant. Not when so many people from her own world didn't even believe Fennbirn existed. "It's very- I guess the word you would use is 'low-tech'? No computers, no phones, no electric lights or any of that."

"Certainly one way of putting it," Jules said with a huff of laughter. "I've been here since the summer, though, so I've gotten accustomed to... a lot of it. Not," she added, "that there was much 'getting used to' anything this summer, what with how it kept changing."

throughaphase: (are you even serious?)

"Oh, yeah, that's not typical," Kitty said quickly, because she always felt the need to get that out there. "That place is nuts, but it's considerably less nuts."

But...

"Okay, the last few weeks have still been crazy, too."

"I was a boy for four days," Jules complained. It hadn't been terribly traumatic or anything, just straight up weird.

Keyleth knew that! And she was tempted, briefly, to turn into a tiger herself and join Cam in the pool, but that might be a little too much for the unsuspecting non-Fandom guests.

"Hi, Camden!" she called instead, heading over to find a lounge chair near Jules. "Hi, roomie."

"Keyleth, hey," Jules greeted.

... Yeah, the antler-less look was weird. "How's your vacation going so far?"

[personal profile] goldfishontherocks 2019-10-14 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It felt weird too, okay? She didn't like it.

"So far it's fine," Keyleth assured her. "And it's so neat to realize we're at exactly the equator of this planet. I'm looking forward to the cruise part of the trip, though!"

For one, there were less disconcertingly monotheistic churches out on the water.

"Me too. I've never been on a boat that big," Jules admitted. "It should be interesting."

Ships, Jules. Boats that big were called ships.

"Ship," Keyleth offered mildly; Zephrah wasn't that far from the Tal'Dorei coastline. "At least you shouldn't be too worried about getting seasick. I don't know if I can say the same."

She could fail a constitution check. You never knew.

Re: Hotel Pool

"Right," Jules sighed. She was from a fishing village, had been on boats since before she could walk, everyone had expected her to grow up and marry-

No.

She was not thinking about Joseph right now.

"Why's that?"
goldfishontherocks: (Thinky)

Re: Hotel Pool

[personal profile] goldfishontherocks 2019-10-15 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"I grew up on a mountain peak," Keyleth said, smiling a bit wistfully as she pictured Zephrah in her head. Maybe, if she ever got a chance to go home for a visit, she could take pictures of it and bring them back to show people, because she was pretty sure her attempts to describe her village would never do it justice. "I know what boats are, but I don't . . . really have any experience with them."
